Mom Dog Left at Kansas Shelter Puzzled by Lack of Adoption Interest

Date:

The life of a sweet deaf dog named Joy has never been easy. Abandoned by her owners at an overcrowded shelter while heavily pregnant, she felt deeply confused, not understanding why she was betrayed in her time of need. Joy lovingly cared for her puppies, hoping they would find families that would never give them up. Her wish came true when all her babies got adopted, and Joy moved to Always & Furever Midwest Animal Sanctuary in Kansas, believing she, too, would find someone to love her.

Joy quickly won the hearts of the sanctuary staff and volunteers with her charming personality. They loved taking her on walks, and she brightened their days. Her friends at the sanctuary believed she would soon find her perfect match. She embodied all the desirable traits potential adopters look for in a dog.

“Miss Joy loves going for long walks, playing in the yard, and collecting all the stuffies! She is very playful, sweet, and full of personality. Little tiny bestie is the best companion anyone could ever ask for,” Always & Furever Midwest Animal Sanctuary shared on Facebook.

With the love from the staff, Joy quickly adapted to her new life at the sanctuary and dreamed of meeting her forever family. At first, her heart brimmed with hope, but as time passed and she was overlooked, her optimism began to fade. Joy has spent years transitioning through multiple foster homes, and although she adores people, she tends to be particular about her four-legged companions, preferring larger dogs to small ones.

The Pup Doesn’t Give Up Hope

Joy has overcome her hearing impairment with impressive skills in sign language for essential commands such as “I love you,” “good girl,” “sit,” “no,” “leave it,” “peanut butter,” “walk,” “drink,” and “eat.” Nonetheless, even as an exceptional companion, interest in her remained low. As Joy watched her friends leave the shelter with their new families, she couldn’t help but wonder why she hadn’t been chosen. Her sanctuary friends comforted her, assuring that her perfect forever family was on its way.

“… She’s been wondering why she hasn’t been picked yet. We keep telling her she’s the best girl in the world and they always save the best for last,” shared the sanctuary in a Facebook post.

Joy remains patient and hopeful for her future, firmly believing that the day will come when she will be embraced by her forever family and never let go. I wish for that sweet doggo to receive the joyous news she has been waiting so long to hear.
