The festive season is here, and our four-legged companions wish to join the celebrations. However, this joy is not a reality for all dogs; only a fortunate few experience it. Knox, a Great Pyrenees and Labrador mix, has been waiting for his chance at happiness. Unfortunately, he is commemorating a different milestone—his two-year stay at the Missouri shelter, where he has been consistently overlooked due to his hearing impairment.
Knox’s Past Is Unclear

Knox’s background remains largely unknown. When he arrived at Dogwood Animal Shelter in Osage Beach, Missouri, he was classified as a stray without any details about his previous family. From a young age, Knox warmed up to the shelter staff, quickly earning a reputation as a gentle giant.

Though Knox is large, he has always been a lovable and kind companion. Yet, his deafness has prevented him from being adopted. As highlighted in his Pet Finder profile,
“His endearing nature is particularly touching considering his special need – he is deaf. Despite his hearing impairment, Knox is a happy and easy-going guy,”
. Lynn Ludwig, a shelter volunteer and one of the first to meet Knox, shared his poignant story on TikTok, making it go viral.
Before long, people from across the country began reaching out to the Missouri shelter for updates on Knox. Many expressed their hopes that he would find a forever home soon, with comments like, “Praying this beautiful baby finds his forever home, he deserves the world,” and, “All I want for Christmas is for Knox to get adopted,” reflecting the widespread compassion for him.
His Disability Is Not An Inability

Even with his challenging situation, Knox’s caregivers emphasize that his hearing impairment is not a limitation; he remains a joyful, easygoing pup who would thrive in a loving home. Preferably, he seeks a calm environment where he can be the only pet and take things at his own pace. They stress that “Patience, understanding, and unconditional love are the pillars of the home he seeks… Whether it’s leisurely walks in nature or cozy evenings indoors, Knox is eager to share his heart and sweet spirit with his forever family,” his caregivers concluded.

Knox continues to search for the right family. When that moment arrives, he will surely bring immense joy to them, embodying the gentle giant he is—ready to offer his heart and soul to those who show him love and kindness. Good luck, Knox! You truly are a good boy!
