Being a dog rescuer or just a dog lover, you never know where your heart will lead you or when your next rescue opportunity will arise. This is precisely what Donna Lochmann, Chief Life Saving Officer at Stray Rescue of St. Louis in Missouri, understands all too well. One day, while scouting for new pups to help alongside her teammates, she spotted a mother dog lying on the frozen ground with her puppies curled up beside her, waiting for someone to notice them.
They Desperately Needed Help
Understanding the severe cold, Donna and her colleague stopped in their tracks, recognizing the mother dog’s desperate attempt to keep her puppies warm wasn’t enough; the entire family had endured the freezing conditions for an unknown length of time.
In the next moment, Donna’s team set a humane trap nearby, enticing the mother dog with delicious treats, and waited at a distance. Fortunately, the mama dog was starving and walked into the trap without hesitation, allowing them to secure her with ease. Now, the focus was on rescuing her puppies.
They discovered the puppies hiding in a small crawl space, complicating the rescue a bit. Nevertheless, Donna and her dedicated team managed to save them all! One by one, she scooped up the three chunky male puppies and placed them inside the car with their mom, who was just as happy to finally be warm.
Meet Chipmunk And Her Boys
I’ve never seen such chubby puppies – nor has the SRSL team! The trio, named Alvin, Simon, And Theodore, along with their mom Chipmunk, were welcomed into the facility with open hearts. The volunteers couldn’t hide their admiration, as their first meet-and-greet was overflowing with cuddles and kisses, and for good reason!
But it only gets better! Immediately after their rescue, Chipmunk and her puppies found a wonderful foster home with a caring foster mom. “We got the whole family out of the freezing cold, we had a foster hero ‘on deck’ ready to take them in – and these are the cutest, fattest puppies in the world! Meet Chipmunk and her boys, Alvin, Simon, and Theodore,” the Missouri rescue shared in a YouTube video.
Momma Chipmunk and her puppies are now starting a new chapter, learning the finer points of indoor living. When the time is right, all four will be available for adoption. But for now, let’s just admire how adorably chubby these little darlings are! I can’t get enough of them!
