My heart breaks whenever I see a dog chained to a doghouse. Tragically, for some dogs, this is their harsh reality, spending their entire lives without knowing freedom, never running freely in an open yard, and never feeling the warmth of a loving home.
This was the case for Galentine, a two-year-old Pittie, who was chained to her doghouse in freezing weather, surrounded by snow. To make matters worse, she had a heartbreaking surprise hidden in her tiny space.
They Had No Idea What Was Inside
Donna Lochmann and her Stray Rescue of St. Louis team have witnessed countless heart-wrenching stories, but seeing Galentine peeking from her tiny doghouse amidst the snow shocked them to the core. Galentine’s sorrowful expression seemed to convey a desperate plea, and indeed, something significant awaited discovery inside her home.
To everyone’s astonishment, Galentine wasn’t alone! She had recently given birth to six fragile, newborn puppies, all relying on her.
Gratefully, Donna and her team swiftly responded, rescuing the puppies and their mother and driving them to safety for the first time in their lives, where Galentine and her babies could bask in the warmth of a cozy Missouri shelter.
“We had a huge win today. We were able to get her and all of her babies!! Now they are warm for the first time in their whole lives,” the rescue organization shared in a Facebook post.
The six puppies, named Cherish, Arrow, Amour, Adore, Serenade, and Flirt, thrived within weeks, growing into strong, playful companions. They savored the warmth of nourishing meals and delighted in having their mother close by.
Galentine Is A Baby Herself
In her newfound comfort, Galentine blossomed into a playful puppy herself, craving attention and affection from her caregivers. For the first few weeks, she constantly climbed into their laps, expressing her gratitude.
“She is attention-starved as well, and just wants to climb in our laps and kiss our hands. She is sooo grateful. What a good mom,” the rescue team reflected.
The team felt immense joy, knowing that Galentine would never return to that cold doghouse or experience neglect again.
Galentine was now safe, ready for her forever home, and eagerly waiting for the perfect opportunity!
“She’s ready to be someone’s daughter. Never again will she be lonely, cold, frightened, or hungry,” the team confirmed in another post.
Thanks to the dedicated efforts of Missouri rescuers, Galentine’s puppies were safely transferred to a foster home to receive the care they needed. When the time is right, these adorable puppies will be ready for adoption.
Fortunately, Galentine’s wait was not long at all! Her loving nature quickly earned her the title of the shelter’s sweetheart, and soon, her new family caught wind of her captivating personality at an adoption event.
Galentine’s new mom and dad were smitten with her from the moment they laid eyes on her at the event and quickly raced to be the first in line to provide her with a loving, permanent home.
Now, Galentine has everything she ever dreamed of: a caring family, a warm and cozy place, and countless days filled with love and companionship. After enduring so much hardship, she will finally know what it’s like to truly be a cherished baby!
