Four little puppies felt confused and scared when their owner placed them in a cardboard box and left them in the car. Huddled together, they were frightened of the dark and couldn’t comprehend that their family was abandoning them.
It was freezing cold when their owner removed the box from the car and discarded it in the parking lot of the Central Missouri Humane Society in Columbia, Missouri. Shivering and terrified, the puppies clung to each other, hoping for rescue on this terrible night.
A Mysterious Cardboard Box
Fortunately, the puppies didn’t have to spend the night outside. The shelter staff noticed when the owner abandoned the box and quickly rushed to investigate, suspecting something alive might be inside.
“We weren’t entirely sure what was going to be in the box, but based on how fast they sped away, we assumed it would be something alive,” the Central Missouri Humane Society explained in a Facebook post. To their surprise, when they opened the box, they found four little puppies staring up at them. Heartbroken by the owner’s actions, the staff realized that the furbabies likely wouldn’t have survived if they hadn’t been found in time.
“We are pleading with people to not dump animals, especially in these extreme conditions. Had we not found these puppies right away, they probably would not have made it in the 15° weather,” the Missouri shelter added.
Safe And Warm
The staff brought the box with the puppies into the shelter, where they felt safe and warm. After being checked at a vet clinic, the puppies will be available for adoption as soon as their one-week stray hold expires. The shelter’s social media post about these adorable pups touched many hearts, leading to about fifteen adoption applications in the first night alone.
With the hope of finding loving homes, the puppies are set to leave their rough beginnings behind. Thanks to the dedicated team at the Central Missouri Humane Society, these furbabies are on their way to the happiness they always deserved.
