Some, like Knox—a Great Pyrenees and Labrador mix—are still waiting for their chance at happiness. This gentle giant is marking a different kind of milestone: two years in a Missouri shelter, overlooked by potential adopters due to one reason—his hearing impairment.
Knox’s Past Is Unclear
Knox’s history remains a mystery. He arrived at Dogwood Animal Shelter in Osage Beach, Missouri, labeled as a stray dog with no information about his family. Despite being just a few months old, Knox quickly warmed up to the shelter staff, earning the title of “gentle giant.”
Despite his size, Knox is a lovable and kind companion, but unfortunately, that hasn’t been enough for him to find a home due to his deafness. As mentioned in his Pet Finder profile, “His endearing nature is particularly touching considering his special need—he is deaf. Despite his hearing impairment, Knox is a happy and easy-going guy.”
Lynn Ludwig, a shelter volunteer and one of the first to meet Knox, shared his poignant story on TikTok, causing it to go viral. Soon, people from across the country began reaching out to the Missouri shelter regarding his situation, sending prayers and positivity in the hopes of finding him a forever home.
Many commenters expressed their support: “Praying this beautiful baby finds his forever home; he deserves the world,” wrote one, while another added, “All I want for Christmas is for Knox to get adopted.”
His Disability Is Not An Inability
Despite Knox’s situation, his caregivers emphasize that his hearing impairment should not be seen as a limitation. Knox remains a joyful pup perfect for a loving home. He prefers a calm environment where he can thrive as the sole pet, taking life at his own pace. “Patience, understanding, and unconditional love are the pillars of the home he seeks… Whether it’s leisurely walks in nature or cozy nights in, Knox is excited to share his spirit in his forever home,” his caregivers concluded.
