Missouri Rescuer’s Attempt to Save Scared Pup from Extreme Cold

Date:

Donna Lochmann, despite her extensive rescue experience, never turns away an animal in distress, answering every call she receives. This commitment is particularly evident during harsh weather conditions. Whether it’s the intense heat of summer or the biting cold of winter, animals like pups especially struggle without help. When she received a call about a small white pup freezing outside, she immediately geared up and grabbed her rescue partner to head to the location.

You Are Coming With Me

After a neighbor informed Donna about a tiny white pup that had been wandering from porch to porch in the freezing cold for weeks, she felt compelled to act. Donna, along with her colleague, spent two exhausting hours driving around the neighborhood in the snow trying to catch this elusive pup. Despite their efforts, the pup remained distrustful and elusive, making their rescue mission a challenge.

Things took a turn when they cornered the pup on a porch, limiting her escape routes. However, when Donna attempted to approach her, the pup growled, signaling her displeasure at being captured. Fortunately, Donna anticipated this and had prepared some treats to help win the pup’s trust. By offering her the tasty snacks, she reassured the pup that they meant no harm.

Finally Safe

After some time on the porch, Donna successfully picked up the little pup using her coat for warmth and placed her in the car. The time spent out in the St. Louis snow had left the pup in dire condition—cold, wet, and matted. However, relief was on the way as she was headed to the Stray Rescue of St. Louis shelter, where a refreshing spa day awaited her.

After a bubbly bath and a much-needed haircut, the pup—now named Joanie January—was transformed beyond recognition. The final step was to find her a loving foster home, which happened swiftly.

Welcome Home

Ally Turner, a warm-hearted foster mom, opened her home for Joanie January. Their meeting was filled with instant affection. In Ally’s words, “This girl is a bit shy/timid but is sooo sweet! She’s already my little shadow, wanting to be held and following me around. She’s exploring the apartment, and her introduction with Emmy went well!”

At last, Joanie was safe and secure, free from the worries of street life, as she settled into her new foster home where she is cherished and adored. We look forward to witnessing the wonderful transformation that lies ahead for her!
