It breaks my heart to see dogs struggling to find loving homes due to physical disabilities beyond their control. These wonderful animals are often overlooked, which can lead to feelings of depression and worsen their situations, despite the best efforts of rescuers to make them feel at home. This was the case for a sweet pup named Box from Missouri, born with an unfortunate underbite.
Box Has An Underbite

When Box was surrendered to Pawportunities Animal Rescue in Blue Springs, Missouri, his rescuers were shocked by his appearance. The previous owner, a breeder, surrendered him due to his extreme underbite. Unfortunately, this breeder’s practices were cruel and unethical, demonstrating a disregard for the dogs’ well-being, as profit was his only concern.

Once Box’s unique underbite became apparent, the breeder decided he no longer wanted to care for him and surrendered him. Despite the cruelty of his previous owner, it is a small relief that Box was not abandoned. Being at the shelter now gives him at least a chance of finding a loving home, although the path ahead may be challenging.
There Is Still Hope For Him

Upon taking Box in, the rescuers discovered that he was a sweet Chihuahua who had endured mistreatment throughout his life. They identified him as being six years old and fortunately not suffering from any major health issues. Time spent in the shelter, while helpful, has also made him anxious, particularly around loud noises. Nevertheless, Box’s spirit shines through whenever his rescuers visit; he smiles and expresses his happiness, recognizing their kindness.

Though Box remains a bit reserved around new people, he expresses his comfort by leaning into their hands when they pet him. While his future is uncertain, the rescuers are hopeful that he will soon find a forever home. They believe that this lovable Chihuahua will eventually be recognized for his sweet nature and given the chance he greatly deserves.
