On a cold, windy day in St. Louis, Missouri, a sad stray puppy wandered the neighborhood, feeling lost and alone. Seeking shelter, he approached a random house and curled up on the porch doormat, trying to keep warm by tucking his paws beneath him.
With hopes that the homeowners would be kind and not chase him away, he dreamed of a warm bed and loving parents to take care of him.
Good Humans Show Kindness To The Stray Canine
Luckily, a kind-hearted individual spotted the forlorn pup and immediately contacted Stray Rescue of St. Louis for assistance. As soon as the rescuers received the call, they rushed to the scene, saddened to find Gasper, as he was later named, huddled on the doormat with his sad eyes looking up at them. After a brief interaction, he allowed them to put a leash around his neck.
As the rescuers approached, the pup’s demeanor began to change; he realized they were there to help. His sweet, sad eyes started to fill with hope as they carried him to their warm car, providing him the comfort he so desperately needed on that cold day.
The Love He Missed While Being On The Streets
Once at the shelter, Gasper received cuddles and affection from the staff, who quickly realized just how lovable he was. The veterinarians conducted a thorough medical examination and estimated Gasper to be around eight years old. Despite his exhaustion from life on the streets, Gasper remained grateful to be rescued.
“Anytime we go spend time with this sweet guy, he does a big stretch and gets off his bed. As we begin petting him, he slowly sinks to the floor. Then, he closes his eyes and just melts into the massage,” the rescue wrote on Facebook.
With the love and care from the shelter staff, Gasper thrived, soaking in all the affection they offered. His delightful personality won their hearts day by day, and he loved when they made kissy noises, leaning in for more cuddles.
Gasper Hopes To Get His Happy Ending
Gasper wishes for a wonderful family to share his endless hugs and kisses with. Despite having multiple skin tumors, his shelter family remains hopeful for a hospice foster or a forever home, knowing he could still have a lot of joy left to share. “He could have years left. He’s doing really well now that he’s safe and healthy, and we imagine he’ll continue to improve in a loving, easygoing home,” the shelter noted.
Until Gasper finds his forever home, the shelter staff will continue to shower him with love. We hope this charming Missouri pup soon finds the caring family he deserves to give him his happily-ever-after.
