Michigan Woman Discovers Taped-Up Tote by the Road and Is Stunned by What She Uncovers

Date:

What began as an ordinary day for Lilia Toscano transformed into a poignant experience when she noticed a rubber tote bag abandoned on the roadside near her home in Detroit. Sensing something was off, Toscano hurried outside to investigate and discovered that the bag was taped shut. With curiosity and concern, she opened it and was met with a shocking sight—a terrified dog shivering inside, looking at her in disbelief.

The Pup Is Too Scared To Trust Anyone

Toscano’s neighbor carefully lifted the frightened dog and brought him inside, then they contacted P.O.E.T. Animal Rescue to inform them of the abandoned animal. The pup, later named Kendrick, remained still, raising concerns for Toscano and her neighbor about possible injuries. A board member from P.O.E.T. arrived to collect Kendrick and took him to a veterinary clinic where he would be examined. Fortunately, an X-ray revealed he was not injured; his immobility was a result of his extreme fear of people.

One of the vet technicians gently spoke to Kendrick, helping him to relax. Over time, he began to trust those around him, showing signs of emotional healing from the trauma and heartbreak he must have experienced. It was evident that Kendrick needed a kind and loving foster home where he could learn to feel safe.

Kendrick Meets His Foster Mom

Upon learning about Kendrick, Lauren Boesen, another board member of the rescue, immediately went to the clinic to foster him. However, when she first met Kendrick, he tried to hide, still overwhelmed by fear. Understanding the importance of building trust, Boesen took her time, sitting on the floor and speaking to him gently. As she spoke, Kendrick began to wag his tail, a sign of his growing comfort with her.

He gradually warmed up, allowing her to put a leash on him and lead him to her car. Boesen reassured him that everything would be okay, and sensing her kindness, Kendrick jumped into her car, eager for the journey ahead. As they drove home, he gazed out the window, taking in the world around him.

Once settled in, Boesen realized Kendrick didn’t know how to behave like a typical dog. Though he was undeniably adorable, he had never learned to show affection or play with toys. Taking the time to help him adjust, Boesen provided a calm environment where Kendrick could explore his new home and discover the joys of companionship. Gradually, Kendrick began to enjoy cuddles and affection, exploring his surroundings, and even learned to run joyfully through the snow.

“Over the last few weeks, he has grown now to love cuddles and pets. He also now loves to get picked up and run around in the yard. He absolutely loves running through the snow,” Boesen added.

While Kendrick still faces challenges in trusting people, his progress has been remarkable. Until he finds a forever family that will shower him with the love he deserves, he remains in the care of his caring foster mom.
