Every dog has a hidden talent that eventually leaves their owners amazed. Tiki, a senior shelter dog, chose to unveil his remarkable skills not just to his caregivers but to the entire internet. This adorable boy is a world-class Houdini, a fact soon discovered by the shelter staff through their security camera.
Being a naturally social puppy, Tiki wasn’t fond of being confined in a crate during the night. So, he decided to take matters into his own paws. He effortlessly unlocked his crate, slipped out of the room, and set off in search of companionship.
He’s One Sneaky Senior
Tiki, a nine-year-old dog rescued from a Michigan road, surprised everyone upon entering the Humane Society of Huron Valley. Despite his homelessness, he quickly became a social butterfly and was desperate for company. However, due to overcrowding at the shelter, Tiki spent his first nights confined in a crate.
Determined not to wait for volunteers, Tiki skillfully unlocked his crate, opened the office door, explored the shelter, and made an escape through the front door. Fortunately, he was intercepted by a vet arriving for work that morning.
Although the staff thought this was the end, Tiki had other plans. The following evening, he replicated his escape, this time eluding anyone who could stop him from leaving the shelter entirely.
After winding through several hallways, Tiki magically found the front door and casually strolled into the nearby Matthaei Botanical Gardens. Assuming he was a lost shelter dog, Tiki was safely returned by the botanical garden workers, yet the mystery of how he escaped remains unanswered.
Tiki’s Second Chance
Just two weeks after Tiki’s viral video of his escape, he found a forever home in Michigan. Unfortunately, his new owner had to return him due to significant separation anxiety exhibited by Tiki during the owner’s absence. “He was adopted until separation anxiety proved to be a challenge. We now know he needs someone who spends a lot of time at home right now to work through it,” explained the Michigan rescue on Facebook.
Nevertheless, the shelter remained hopeful, convinced that Tiki’s sweet nature would eventually attract a suitable family.
Excitingly, Tiki didn’t have to wait long for his second chance. The rescue announced that he found a forever home with a retired dad who was eager to give him the best years ahead.
“He has been in one of our fosters for the remaining duration of his time, and today Tiki hit the jackpot with his newly retired dad! We at HSHV wish Tiki the happiest of homes,” the rescue shared.
Tiki has finally found his fortune, and who knows… he might just surprise his new dad with an impressive display of skills or perhaps recreate his Houdini act.
