Sometimes, all we need is a little support to get back on track, and Reggie certainly required one! After being abandoned by his family at an Arizona shelter, this six-year-old Maltese was nearly at his wits’ end. His coat was so matted that it caused him pain and left wounds all over his body, leaving him unrecognizable and far from the dog he once was. However, after a transformative two-and-a-half-hour grooming session, his world completely changed!
It Took Several People To Groom Him
When Reggie was surrendered to the Arizona Humane Society in December 2024, his condition was dire. He missed his owners intensely, but the most pressing issue was his severely matted coat, which was so tangled and filthy that scissors alone couldn’t handle it. He needed extensive grooming, and that’s precisely what the AHS staff provided!
Amitie Davis, one of the groomers, shared how challenging Reggie’s situation was. His mats were incredibly dense and covered in feces, complicating the grooming process considerably. The most concerning area was his neck.
“It took a very long time, multiple people going back to it, and then moving on to something else, and then going back to the neck. My scissors couldn’t even cut through the matting,” Davis stated in a Facebook video.
Reggie had to be sedated for the entire session. Thankfully, a dedicated team of AHS groomers succeeded in removing his fur, and after an extensive two-and-a-half-hour treatment, he emerged as practically a new dog. This remarkable makeover tugged at everyone’s heartstrings, as being free of mats drastically improved the quality of his life!
The Transformation That Left People Speechless
Can you believe that this is truly Reggie? He actually lost an entire pound after the grooming session, leading many to think he was a completely different dog. After this makeover, the proud Maltese regained his confidence and quickly became the star of the shelter, though he still had a road ahead. Reggie received treatment for his wounds caused by the matting, was neutered, and received exceptional care from his rescuers.
He even got to enjoy a soothing spa treatment and bubble bath, enhancing his overall experience. And let’s not forget the stylish sweater he received afterward—just wow!
After receiving the makeover of a lifetime, Reggie was blessed with even more wonderful news. Just after his stunning transformation took the internet by storm, he was adopted into a loving home.
“Thanks to the amazing work from our groomers and team in our Lazin Animal Trauma Hospital, he’s now a confident cutie in his forever home with a fresh haircut and a cozy sweater,” the shelter posted on Facebook.
Reggie is now savoring the simple joys of life beside people who love him for who he is. Having left his troubled past behind, he’s eagerly looking forward to embracing life to the fullest, chasing new adventures every day!
