Mama Dog Scoured the Streets for Scraps, Relentlessly Striving to Keep Her Puppies Alive

Date:

On one of her rescue missions, Amber, the founder of Heart of the Underdog in Texas, noticed a black dog crossing a busy road. Concerned she might get hit by a car, Amber pulled over, approached the dog, and quickly realized the dog was a nursing mother.

Amber rushed to a store, bought food, and fed the mama dog, leaving her plenty to eat. Though she searched for the puppies, she could not find them but promised to return for the dog and her babies the next day.

Rescuing The Mama Dog And Her Puppies

Upon returning the next morning, Amber found the mother dog, now named S’mores, who guided her to a garage where her puppies were staying. After obtaining permission from the owners to enter, Amber was devastated to see the poor living conditions. The moment the puppies saw Amber and their mother, they excitedly came out from their hiding spots behind the lawnmowers.

The adorable puppies were easily captured and placed in a foster home while waiting for their mom to join them. These little fur babies, estimated to be around four weeks old, were named Cinder, Flint, Blaze, Graham, Embers, Marshy, Toasty, and Cocoa. To tackle the more challenging task of rescuing S’mores, Amber enlisted the help of an experienced trapper named Emily, who successfully lured the mama dog into a crate.

The reunited canine family expressed their joy with wagging tails and playful jumps. S’mores was taken for a vet checkup and, thankfully, tested heartworm negative.

Finding Their Happily Ever After

After some time with her puppies, S’mores was put up for adoption and immediately caught the attention of a lovely couple from Wisconsin, who decided to adopt her. Now named Maggie, she is enjoying her new life to the fullest. All her puppies found forever homes except for Toasty.

The rescue team is thrilled with Toasty, who is still looking for her forever home. Everyone has nothing but praise for her and hopes she finds a loving family soon!

“She learns VERY quickly and is also crate AND potty trained! She has her playful puppy moments, but also loves to cuddle up for snuggles on the couch. Her foster mom describes her as a total sweetheart,” Heart of the Underdog shared on Facebook.

If you’re considering adopting a sweet puppy, meet Toasty and give her a chance to capture your heart.
