Although shelters are not permanent homes for dogs, many canines spend their lives behind kennel bars, hoping for a chance at happiness. Lucia is one such dog who waited too long for someone to choose her. After eleven years of watching others find joy in their new homes, Lucia’s spirit remained unbroken; she believed her time would come.
Lucia’s Life In The Shelter

Lucia was just one year old when she arrived at Villalobos Rescue Center in Louisiana. The shelter staff welcomed her warmly, suspecting she had endured a tough past. They aimed to help her forget her earlier life and feel cherished. Liz Scollo, a dog trainer at the shelter, was puzzled as to why this lovely pup hadn’t been adopted yet.
Despite their efforts to find her a home through advertisements and meet-and-greets, Lucia was overlooked—perhaps due to her struggles with socializing with other dogs. But just when she least expected it, her dreams came true; Scollo decided to adopt her. Lucia was ecstatic to leave the shelter, saying goodbye to the only family she had known for so long.
Lucia Finds True Happiness

Once she moved in with Scollo, Lucia radiated happiness, exploring her new home with a big smile. She eagerly sniffed her surroundings and playfully jumped on the couches. After spending eleven years in the shelter, she was ready to embrace a whole new world of adventures.

Now living her best life in New York with Scollo, Lucia is twelve and a half years old but still acts like a puppy, full of energy as she runs in the yard and celebrates her newfound freedom. Loving and affectionate, she loves cuddling with her favorite human.

Scollo hopes Lucia’s journey inspires more individuals to adopt senior dogs and provide them with the happiness they deserve. Thank you, Scollo, for turning Lucia’s dream into reality and making her the happiest dog on the planet.
