Shelter dogs spend their days longing for a chance to live a life full of love. Bernie, a five-year-old shelter dog, has been waiting for just a bit of attention during his six months at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter in Wantagh, New York. As he watches other dogs leave for their new homes, he wonders why no one has chosen him.
The Pup Is A Hidden Gem

Bernie’s large size and high energy may intimidate some, yet these traits make him stand out. His shelter friends have noted, “He is a blast to walk and to hang out with in the yard. He loves to play and chew on hard toys and enjoys running around to release some energy.” Initially, however, Bernie arrived at the shelter malnourished and needed time to adapt and thrive.
Bernie Continues Waiting For His Forever Humans
The staff at the shelter is proud of Bernie’s transformation into a relaxed and confident dog; they believe he would thrive in a forever home with older teens and adults who can keep him active and help him learn good manners. The lovely pup hopes his forever humans will soon find him waiting at the last kennel. Until then, he continues to dream of a new life outside the shelter walls.
With all my heart, I hope that Bernie won’t have to wait any longer for his chance at happiness. He desperately needs someone to notice him and give him a second shot at a loving home.
