Kind-hearted Illinois Residents Spot Abandoned Pup Waiting for His Owner on a Bench and Step In to Help

Date:

In an instant, the life of a sweet Pittie named Parker was turned upside down when his owners abandoned him, leaving him confused about where to go. Trying to keep warm, the malnourished pup curled up on a park bench, clinging to the hope that this was just a nightmare from which he would soon awaken.

Feeling Hopeful

Evidently having lived on his own for some time, Parker was malnourished with sore, patchy skin. Fortunately, a Good Samaritan noticed him trembling in the cold and promptly took him to Chicago Animal Care and Control. Without a collar or microchip, he was placed on a stray hold.

As a photo of Parker waiting on the bench circulated online, it tugged at the heartstrings of many. Recognizing his dire situation, the rescuers at One Tail at a Time, a Chicago rescue, decided to take him under their wing, determined to provide him with a second chance at happiness.

“For so many dogs that could be the end… but not for Parker. Parker is about to learn what it means to be safe. To be loved. To be warm. To be healthy. And with any luck, to be adopted,” One Tail at a Time wrote on Facebook.

Once Parker’s stray hold concluded and no one came to claim him, the rescue stepped in to rescue him from the shelter. They took him to the vet where he was diagnosed with kennel cough, after which he was prescribed medication and moved to a foster home.

Recovering In A Loving Foster Home

His foster family instantly took a liking to him. They suspected he once had a family due to his excellent house manners and leash skills, and Parker felt grateful for the care and love they showered upon him.

While still recovering from kennel cough, Parker is doing his best to aid in his recovery. “He tolerates his baths and medicine well and loves to play. Parker is still active, and his foster calls him ‘a total goober.’ He enjoys napping on the couch (especially right by his foster’s legs) and doesn’t mind wearing jammies to help with his itchy skin,” said Kimberly Thomas, the marketing manager for One Tail at a Time to The Dodo.

Parker’s affectionate nature endears him to everyone, and his foster family believes he will bring immense joy to his forever family. Before long, this lovable pup will begin his search for a permanent home.

“Once his medicated baths and CRID medicine are completed, he will be scheduled for neuter surgery and then become adoptable,” Thomas added. I have complete faith that a wonderful dog like Parker will soon find the happy ending he truly deserves.
