A Pair Of Pleading Eyes
When veterinarian technician Rebecca Van Schepen arrived at the Kentucky Humane Society in Louisville, she was stunned to find a furry creature curled up on a delivery bag outside the shelter.
As she approached, she saw an adorable pup with pleading eyes. Instantly filled with hope, he began to wag his tail. When he tried to stand and greet her, Van Schepen’s heart shattered at the sight of his injuries; he was limping and in agony. She brought him inside and, eager to understand how he ended up there, the staff reviewed the security footage to uncover the heartbreaking truth.
The footage revealed that Cowboy had been abandoned at the shelter at 7:30 p.m. the previous night, spending 11 torturous hours alone, terrified, and waiting for help.
“Despite his injuries, he had hope-filled eyes, and was eager to crawl into Rebecca’s lap for love when she arrived,” said Ally Duncan, the shelter’s PR and marketing coordinator.
Grateful And Happy To Be Rescued
Upon arrival at the shelter, Cowboy, as he was named, showed immense gratitude to the staff who took him in during his darkest hour. After a medical check-up, it was determined that they had no choice but to amputate his leg. Everyone was concerned about how Cowboy would cope, but he astounded them all with his resilience, refusing to be discouraged. He was simply relieved to be no longer in pain.
While resting and recovering, his caregivers showered him with love and snuggles, reassuring him that he wasn’t alone and never would be. Cowboy was full of affection, enjoying cuddles with staff and giving them kisses, bringing immense joy into the shelter.
Ready To Start A New Life Filled With Love
Once he recovered, the Kentucky Humane Society announced Cowboy was ready for adoption. He didn’t wait long and soon rode off into the sunset with his forever family. Enthralled by his new life, Cowboy is adored by his family, who describe him as “the missing piece of a puzzle.” Although his shelter friends miss him dearly, they’re ecstatic he found the endless love he truly deserves.
The shelter staff played a pivotal role in transforming Cowboy’s life, nursing him back to health and surrounding him with love, granting him a second chance at life.
