Joyful Pup Rescued After Three Shelter Stays Can’t Contain His Happiness in New Forever Home

Date:

Riggs has always dreamed of being part of a caring family, hoping to share the love he has within him.

Sadly, the puppy’s journey has been marked by disappointment and sadness.

After being left behind for the third time, Riggs curled up on the floor of his shelter kennel, his face reflecting deep sorrow.

At seven years old, this sweet dog had lost faith in ever finding his forever home. He resigned himself to the reality of spending his life in the shelter.

The Tale of Riggs

One Saturday evening, a compassionate woman named April felt a pull towards an animal shelter, despite having no intention of adopting a new furry friend.

With three cats and a dog at home, she wasn’t looking for another pet.

However, following her instincts, she decided to visit the shelter the following day.

Upon entering the shelter, April immediately spotted a dejected senior dog named Riggs lying alone in his kennel, looking completely defeated.

Seeing his desolation broke April’s heart, and she began to cry.

“When I first laid eyes on him, I went down on my knees, crying because I had never encountered a dog so pathetically sad. It shattered my heart, and I instantly felt a bond with him,” April recounted to Newsweek.

Riggs captured her heart, prompting her to decide on the spot to bring him to her home in Goodyear, Arizona.

In 2019, Riggs was discovered wandering the streets and taken to Maricopa County Animal Control West in Phoenix.

Thanks to his microchip, the staff reached out to his owner, who declined to take him back.

This left Riggs with no option but to await a loving home that seemed never to come.

Sadly, instead of experiencing joy, Riggs faced heartbreak.

This lovable dog had been adopted three times but returned each time to the shelter.

Realizing His Greatest Dream

April discovered Riggs when he needed her compassion the most.

Even though she wasn’t actively searching for a new pet, the warm-hearted woman and her family chose to provide Riggs with the loving home he deserved.

April introduced Riggs to her family and completed the adoption paperwork.

Luckily, he didn’t have to remain at the shelter any longer because he could go home with his new family the very same day.

The moment Riggs understood he was going home with April and her family, his face lit up. His tail began to wag joyfully.

Realizing he was given another shot at happiness, the pooch couldn’t help but smile.

Riggs quickly became beloved by his family, who can’t fathom why he ended up in the shelter.

“He is such a good boy, and I can’t understand why someone would abandon him. He gets along wonderfully with our kids (though we’re careful), our other dog adores him, and he’s incredibly happy and relaxed now,” April shared.

Settling in wonderfully, Riggs is a bundle of love, seizing every chance to cuddle with his humans.

He is now living his dream life, feeling like the happiest pup in the world, having finally found true love.
