While I genuinely enjoy witnessing delightful animals find loving homes, I often remember that many people prefer to adopt pets that conform to a specific appearance.
As a result, numerous furry companions are overlooked by potential adopters solely based on their ‘unique’ looks. This is particularly true for animals with special needs.
That’s why, when Lauren spotted one extraordinary puppy in a litter, she knew she had to take him in herself.
Introducing Charles
When a box filled with charming puppies arrived at an animal shelter, the staff couldn’t contain their excitement over their adorableness.
Yet, one of the staff members, Lauren, realized that one of the puppies was blind.
“I immediately thought nobody would want a blind puppy. Finding homes for such animals is extremely challenging. So, I decided to foster him,” Lauren shared with The Dodo.
Initially, the puppy, now named Charles, struggled to learn how to adapt.
He frequently collided with various objects while attempting to explore his environment. Luckily, Lauren devised a helpful strategy for him.
“I would make clicking noises wherever I went, which would perk up his ears, and he would prance over to me. He really relied on me as his guide,” she recalled.
As time passed, Charles learned to listen for Lauren’s footsteps and follow her. The clicking was no longer necessary.
As the days rolled on, the bond between Lauren and Charles deepened.
From playing together throughout the day to napping on top of her head, this lovable pup had truly found his person.
A Heartfelt Decision
Since the passing of Lauren’s cherished dog, Tasi, she felt an unfillable void in her heart. However, with Charles entering her life, she discovered a unique comfort that helped her heal.
When the time came for Charles to leave for a new home, Lauren found herself unprepared to part ways.
“We made the decision to officially adopt Charles. My family was thrilled about our choice, as I simply couldn’t visualize life without him,” she reflected.
The journey from here is a beautiful one!
Charles is now embracing the life he’s always dreamed of.
Surrounded by humans who not only express immense love and care but also enable him to overlook his disability, this wonderful journey continues for them!
