Homeowner Stunned to Find Unlikely Guest in Her Ceiling

Date:

While relaxing in her bedroom, a homeowner suddenly heard unusual sounds capturing her attention. She began to listen intently, trying to discern the source of the peculiar noise. Unbeknownst to her, a startling revelation awaited.

Before long, she concluded that the chittering noise was emanating from the ceiling. The cries and thudding footsteps she heard convinced her that she was not alone in her home.

Sweet Tiny Surprises

The woman reached out to Gates’ Wildlife Control, a company specializing in humane wildlife management, seeking assistance.

Upon arrival, the wildlife control team began inspecting the attic. Their first observation was signs of scratching and gnawing on the roof shingles and wooden structure.

Upon cutting a hole in the wall, they uncovered four baby raccoons. To keep warm, the adorable siblings were snuggling together, their eyes still shut.

The wildlife control team was pleasantly surprised to find baby raccoons at this time of year, as it was February 7, 2023. Typically, mother raccoons give birth in the months of March, April, and May.

“Nonetheless, it’s not unusual to encounter baby raccoons this early. Last year, we found our first ones on January 20th—earliest in our 38 years of service,” stated Gates’ Wildlife Control on Facebook.

With great care, the wildlife control staff placed the tiny, adorable babies into a specialized bag and took them outside.

They then set the baby raccoons in a heated reunion box where the little ones quickly felt safe and warm.

Reunion With Their Mom

The team from Gates’ noted on Facebook that mother raccoons usually establish various den sites in preparation for giving birth.

They were confident that the mother of these babies would reunite with her young ones and lead them to one of her alternative dens, as she remained nearby in the attic.

The following day, the Gates’ staff returned to check up on the babies and were delighted to find the box empty.

“As anticipated, all four babies had been successfully gathered and relocated by their mother,” a representative of Gates’ Wildlife Control shared with The Dodo.

For the baby raccoons, spending the crucial early months with their mother is vital, as she provides nourishment, protection, and teaches them essential survival skills for life in the wild.

We are thrilled that these adorable babies continued to flourish under the care of their mother, who took them into the wild to enjoy their playful youth.
