Hiker Devastated to Discover Three Large Dogs Left Behind on a Mountain by Their Owner

Date:

It’s truly heartbreaking when a dog loses trust in humans due to mistreatment from just one individual.

Dogs are unable to comprehend that not everyone is the same, yet they remain willing to offer us another chance if we demonstrate that we are deserving of it.

This narrative revolves around three large dogs who were abandoned on a mountainside by their owner before encountering their new rescuer.

On a seemingly normal day, Veronica and her dog went on a hike in California when they spotted something unusual.

They observed a dark figure climbing a nearby cliff. Curious, Veronica approached to see what it was.

She recounted to The Dodo: “He scaled the cliff, and as I ventured into the trees, I discovered that it was three dogs.

Veronica instantly recognized how undernourished the dogs were. Their ribs and spines were clearly visible, and it was uncertain when they had last eaten — it could have been days since their last meal.

Time was of the essence, as they desperately needed help; however, the dogs were too frightened of her.

Understanding this, she decided to return another day, leaving them some food before heading home.

Veronica attempted to contact Animal Control, but they were unable to assist due to the risky terrain.

This indicated that she had to take it upon herself to rescue them. Veronica expressed: “Now I carry this immense responsibility for three lives, and I feel lost on what to do next.

She would sit quietly in the forest, place a plate of food nearby, and wait for the dogs to approach. They were often too cautious but still desired the food.

Veronica’s father, who was also assisting her, named the dogs Grace, Steve, and George. The duo returned daily to earn their trust.

An Extremely Successful Rescue

After approximately three weeks of patience, the dogs finally grew brave enough to take food from their hands, which filled Veronica with joy.

However, it was clear that they needed to devise a more effective plan. So they gathered a team of willing volunteers and constructed a large kennel.

Food was placed inside the kennel to entice all three dogs in for a meal. Once they did, the door closed, marking a successful rescue.

Unexpectedly, they accomplished this on their first attempt in a surprisingly short period. Now, the dogs were truly safe.

Veronica exclaimed: “It went so effortlessly. Once we caught them, I cried all the way down the mountain.

Thanks to Veronica, her father, and an amazing group of rescuers, Grace, Steve, and George are now on their way to a brighter future.

Now that they are safe in a California shelter, their caregivers are ensuring they have support at every stage of their rehabilitation journey.

They are rediscovering how to relish the simple joys of life like walking, exploring, and playing, which is truly heartwarming to witness.

While it’s not clear what lies ahead for the dogs, it’s certain that their rescuers are committed to finding them loving forever homes with the best companions.
