Heroic Man Steps In to Save Pit Bull Labeled ‘Big, Tan Guy’ from Euthanasia

Date:

It’s widely recognized that Pit Bulls are among the most misjudged dog breeds globally. Their robust physique and dark history often overshadow their true nature, which can be as affectionate and loving as any dog.

Dexter, the tan Pittie from Georgia, had a rocky start in life.

He spent a considerable time wandering the streets before being taken into a shelter. Tragically, no one seemed interested in adopting him, and his fate was leaning toward euthanasia…

The Last-Minute Rescue

In 2019, Dexter was rescued as a stray in Georgia. Initially found severely underweight—20 to 25 pounds less than he should have been—his fur was in poor condition due to sun exposure and inadequate living situations.

Upon entering a local shelter, his suffering was only extended. Rather than being adopted, Dexter became the overlooked pup—until one day, he caught the eye of some compassionate individuals!

“He was just hunched down in the shelter, looked very sad. His paperwork read: ‘Big, tan guy.’ He didn’t even have a name, and with no applications incoming, he was slated for euthanasia,” Mark shared with GeoBeats Animals.

Thanks to Fly With Me Animal Rescue, Mark Romans and his fiancée had the chance to meet this loving canine—adopting him into their family for life.

Their connection was instant, as Dexter and Mark became fast friends, embarking on a heartwarming journey of camaraderie bound to last a lifetime!

Who’s The Sweetest Pup In The House?

Within weeks, Dexter made it clear who the true sweetheart of the family was!

Despite being taken off the streets, he displayed clear signs of having a previous home. He was house-trained, behaved well indoors, and loved to nap on the couch!

However, what Dexter cherished most was his family! Hence, Mark and his fiancée decided to expand their household by adopting a feline companion.

Young Zoe, just a kitten back then, was welcomed into the family with open arms, and Dexter absolutely enjoyed her company!

The two quickly forged an inseparable bond, growing up together. The typical sibling quarrels or cat-dog misunderstandings? Those were nonexistent in Dexter and Zoe’s delightful friendship.

Dexter Is More Than Just A Good Pet

For Mark, Dexter’s presence in his life transcends mere companionship. Recently diagnosed with lupus, Dexter has been his greatest support system!

As Mark deals with this autoimmune condition, his loyal canine companion has provided more emotional support than anyone else. He’s the best source of comfort, always attuned to Mark’s feelings.

Without uttering a word, Dexter effortlessly brings joy to Mark’s life, knowing precisely how to lift his spirits.

Nevertheless, many still cling to old stereotypes surrounding his breed. Occasionally, unwarranted negative remarks are directed at Dexter due to misconceptions, inspiring Mark to form an advocacy group called East Coast Bully Advocates.

“While walking on a boardwalk, an elderly lady passed us and remarked, ‘That thing’s gonna get you in your sleep one night, you know?’ That encounter prompted me to create East Coast Bully Advocates,” Mark recalled.

To date, the organization has achieved remarkable success, contributing to the rescue of countless dogs!
