All that a sweet pup named Kelly ever wanted was love, but what she received instead was rejection. Her previous owner, a cruel breeder, exploited her for profit and discarded her when she was no longer deemed useful. Sorrowful and malnourished, Kelly roamed the streets, searching for compassion and love.
As she wandered the lonely streets, she maintained hope that someone would notice her and offer a helping hand. Despite her prior mistreatment, Kelly held onto the belief that good humans still existed.
Kelly Arrives At The Shelter
Rescuers at the Humane Society of Broward County in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, rushed to Kelly’s aid as soon as they spotted her. Seeing how malnourished and neglected she was broke their hearts. Upon her arrival, Kelly charmed the staff with her adorable personality, eagerly seeking affection and cuddles.
“Kelly is an absolute love bug who adores being with people and getting affection. She is goofy, enjoys playing with chew toys, and loves going for walks,” shared Susan Leonti, the digital marketing specialist at the Humane Society of Broward County with Newsweek.
The shelter staff was eager to find Kelly a loving home as soon as possible. They recognized that after all she had endured, she deserved to experience true happiness. To share her story, they posted a video on social media featuring a hopeful Kelly standing in her kennel, wagging her tail.
A wonderful couple, looking to adopt their first pet together, saw the video and instantly fell in love with Kelly. The following day, they visited the shelter, expressing that she had captured their hearts, and they were eager to take her home.
The Short-Lived Happiness
With hopes high, the shelter staff felt immense joy, believing Kelly had finally found happiness. On her adoption day, Kelly was overjoyed, her face lighting up as she joyfully bid farewell to her shelter friends.
However, shortly after bringing Kelly home, the adopters discovered one of them was allergic to dogs. Unfortunately, they had no choice but to return Kelly to the shelter.
After catching a glimpse of happiness, Kelly found herself behind the kennel bars once again, her heart shattered.
“Since being returned, Kelly has displayed such a sad and worried expression. Whenever we walk by her kennel, she cries out, her eyes filled with desperation. It is truly heartbreaking to witness,” Leonti added.
While she cherishes the affection from her shelter friends, Kelly dreams of having her own family. She longs to experience true love for the first time in her life, and I hope her dream comes true soon. This affectionate pup deserves the care and happiness of parents who will spoil her and fill her life with joy.
