Heartwarming Rescue of Adorable French Bulldog Found Dragging Her Paralyzed Legs by Amazing Humans

Date:

City streets can often feel quite intimidating.

This is particularly true for a vulnerable puppy trying to make it in the world. Despite their best intentions, some dogs find themselves caught in precarious situations.

This was the case for a small French Bulldog who received a fortunate rescue after being involved in a severe accident that left her in critical condition.

A Heartbreaking Incident

This adorable pup, later named Wiggles, was discovered struggling along the California streets, hoping to attract someone’s attention for help.

Fortunately, she was spotted by the rescuers at Animal Friends of the Valley in Wildomar, California, who promptly transported her to Pug Nation Rescue of Los Angeles for the critical care she needed.

“We frequently collaborate with that shelter, so they reached out and asked if we could rescue Wiggles,” Gwenn Vallone shared with Newsweek.

As Pug Nation Rescue of Los Angeles is a nonprofit focused on the rescue, care, and placement of pugs in need, the staff at Animal Friends of the Valley felt confident that Wiggles would receive excellent care.

Although the organization primarily caters to Pugs, they recognize that special-needs French Bulldogs who struggle with mobility often face euthanasia at shelters, thus they make an effort to take them in whenever possible.

Upon hearing Wiggles’ plight, the Los Angeles shelter welcomed her with open arms.

A New Leash on Life

While Wiggles’ background remains a mystery, a veterinary examination revealed her past was anything but pleasant.

“When she arrived, she was underweight, not spayed, had no movement in her back legs and was incontinent,” Vallone explained.

Sadly, Wiggles suffered from intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), a condition impacting the spine that can cause anything from mild discomfort to complete paralysis.

“This issue is very prevalent in French Bulldogs. One moment they’re walking, and the next, they lose their ability to walk or control their bodily functions,” Vallone noted.

Sadly, French Bulldog owners often abandon their pets when faced with an IVDD diagnosis.

“Sometimes, when owners learn that their dog requires a costly MRI and surgery, they will discard the dog on the streets or at shelters,” she elaborated.

Although surgery can sometimes reverse IVDD, many owners delay seeking veterinary help, resulting in permanent problems.

Despite her challenges, Wiggles remains a joyful spirit.

“Since her arrival, Wiggles has been immensely happy. She is loving, lively, and truly delightful to be around. Aside from her inability to walk, she exhibits all the typical behaviors of a dog—she loves to play, eat, and receive affection,” Vallone remarked.

This positive outlook likely stems from the safe and nurturing setting that allows her to relax without the stresses of surviving alone in a harsh environment.

Vallone maintains hope and is committed to finding Wiggles the best forever home.

“There are many individuals out there capable of caring for a dog like Wiggles, and we hope that a compassionate adopter will step forward for her so she can have her own loving home with more personalized attention,” she stated.

Vallone is even offering to train any potential adopters on how to care for a special-needs dog, understanding that not everyone may have that knowledge.

While waiting for someone to come and offer this little angel a home, Wiggles is thriving in her current setting.

“Wiggles enjoys her days in our ‘free bird’ area—the kitchen where the staff is frequently present—providing her with constant supervision and companionship. There are also several other special-needs dogs that she hangs out with, offering each other comfort,” Vallone concluded.

Wiggles spends her time playing with both staff and furry friends, allowing her to move on from her past and focus on her promising future.

I have no doubt that before long, Wiggles will find a loving family that appreciates her for the sweet soul she truly is.

Best of luck, Wiggles!
