How can you explain to your cherished dog that you have to surrender him to a shelter?
Unfortunately, that was the difficult choice a dog owner had to face when she was hospitalized for cancer treatment.
Devastated, she understood that an overcrowded shelter would not provide a safe environment for her senior dog, Jackson.
The staff at Tulsa Animal Welfare in Oklahoma immediately recognized the woman’s heartbreak.
Moved by her situation, they sought a solution.
They reached out to Emily, a dog groomer and rescuer, to see if she could foster Jackson until his owner was out of the hospital.
Feeling Secure in a Foster Home
Upon hearing about the emotional situation, Emily quickly agreed to take Jackson into her care.
The dog owner felt an immense relief as she brought Jackson to Emily’s home in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
“Jackson’s owner brought him over, and I could immediately sense how much she adored him,” Emily recounted to Newsweek.
She felt grateful to Emily for taking care of her dog.
As she hugged Jackson goodbye, tears streamed down her face. She kissed him and promised she would return for him.
The dog was puzzled, unable to comprehend why his mom was leaving him behind.
Emily and her family provided exceptional care for Jackson, showering him with affection and attention.
Despite his enjoyable time at the foster home, Jackson never stopped missing his mom and believed she would return for him someday.
Throughout her hospital stay, Jackson’s owner thought about her beloved dog daily and stayed in contact with Emily, who frequently shared updates and photos of Jackson.
“She checked in with me every day, wanting to know how he was doing. I provided her with updates. She ended up staying in the hospital for a little over two months. During that period, we treated Jackson like he was one of our own. He was such a joy to care for, very relaxed, and often napped,” Emily shared.
A Heartfelt Reunion
After being discharged from the hospital, Jackson’s mom rushed to retrieve her beloved companion. She eagerly anticipated seeing and holding him again.
When Jackson spotted his mom approaching, he sprinted towards her and kissed her with excitement.
The joyous dog was ecstatic, leaping with happiness as his cherished human returned to him.
Jackson’s foster family couldn’t help but shed tears of joy as they witnessed the touching reunion.
Everyone felt elated knowing that this dog had finally found his happy ending.
