Some friends walk on two legs, while others have four and a delightful coat of fur. Regardless of their number of legs, these companions enrich our lives immensely.
Delvia González understands this well, as a puppy has become her cherished best friend.
Forever Friends
Greka, a lovely Pit Bull, enjoys her life with her owner, Delvia Gonzalez.
Like any other dog, Greka adores playful moments, especially those that involve her beloved humans.
While she shares affection with all the people she meets, there is one particular individual who holds a uniquely special place in her heart.
Since Delvia had to work daily, a care provider was needed for Greka, and she had the ideal candidate.
Gonzalez’s mother, also named Delvia and aged 70, volunteered to care for Greka, which turned out to be the best choice she could have made.
“They kept each other company, playing fetch with a ball, and when tired, they would cuddle up watching TV,” González shared with The Dodo.
The duo thrived in each other’s company, and whenever Gonzalez felt unwell, Greka would faithfully stay by her side.
“My mother managed diabetes which affected her eyesight. Greka became her support. Whenever my mom felt ill or her glucose levels changed, Greka would alert me and stayed close to her, always lying at her feet,” shared González.
Sad News
Greka stayed alongside her beloved caretaker until the very end as González sadly passed away after being hospitalized.
“Greka rushed into the emergency room first, her anxiety evident as she sought out her grandmother. To help her grasp the situation, we took Greka to say goodbye on the day of the burial, allowing her a moment near the casket. She expressed her grief profoundly, trembling with sadness, yet seemed to comprehend that her grandmother was at peace,” she shared.
True friendships may be separated by distance, yet the bond remains eternally in their hearts, a sentiment captured in a video González posted on TikTok.
To honor her mother’s memory, González placed a photo of her, and upon seeing it, Greka instinctively refused to leave its side.
“She is incredibly sorrowful. Approaching the picture, she brings her ball and sits, patiently awaiting a throw,” González remarked.
González provided all the comfort she could to Greka, and in doing so, she also found solace for herself.
“Every time I hug Greka or she brings me a ball, I feel my mom’s presence. Her affection for my mother has united us in this challenging journey,” she expressed.
However, their mother and grandmother’s spirit remains with them, a truth they rediscovered during a recent beach visit.
Love is a powerful force. Whether between two people or a pet and its owner, love has the ability to transcend all boundaries.
Gonzalez will forever watch over them, ensuring that they always have joy in their hearts.
