Heartbroken Giant Dog Grieves the Loss of His Beloved Little Sister

Date:

Dogs create deep connections with their owners and family, and when they lose someone special, they can feel an overwhelming sense of heartache and absence.

Similar to humans, the loss of a beloved companion can be incredibly distressing for a dog. Picture sharing every day with someone only to have them vanish without warning.

While it’s likely that dogs can perceive such changes, that awareness doesn’t ease the pain of coping.

You may observe alterations in your dog’s demeanor, such as lethargy, sadness, or a lack of interest in food.

When Browser, a large English Mastiff from Las Vegas and a huge fan of food, lost his younger sister, Sasha, he was understandably devastated and stopped eating.

A Unique Connection

On March 5th, 2024, Browser’s family shared the heartbreaking news of their cherished dog, Sasha, passing away from cancer.

“It’s been a very emotional day, and we are all so sad. Thank you to everyone for your love and support,” they posted on Instagram.

One family member felt the impact of her loss acutely. Browser and Sasha were inseparable pals who spent countless joyful moments together—playing, running, sharing tasty treats, and relishing each other’s company.

After Sasha’s untimely departure, the home felt incomplete without his beloved “little” sister.

Even though Browser is a giant, he possesses a gentle spirit. Losing his sister shattered his “giant” heart, leaving him melancholic for days.

“I’ve been feeling a bit down lately without my big sister, Sasha. She was the brave one, and I was the muscle. Without her, I feel a bit lost,” the caption stated.

Since Sasha’s passing, it became apparent that Browser had stopped eating from his bowl.

This behavior was completely unusual for him, as he is typically a voracious eater who enjoys his meals. However, the absence of his sister has been extremely tough.

The family had to get creative to persuade Browser to eat. They found that he would only eat if his dad fed him with a spoon.

A video shared on Browser’s social media showcases him sitting at the table like a person while his dad serves him a homemade meal of ground beef, black beans, and brown rice.

The family noted that this was the only way to encourage Browser to consume his food.

This video illustrates how even dogs find it challenging to cope with grief and the loss of their loved ones.

Dealing with Grief

In such situations, it’s crucial to shower our furry companions with ample love and care.

They feel just as bewildered, lost, and sorrowful as you do.

Dogs thrive on their routines, so if you are able, try to maintain a steady schedule while coping with grief. Spending quality time with your pet, like engaging in play or going for walks, can help distract them from their loss.

Always remember that love and time can mend all broken hearts.

While nothing can replace Sasha, Browser’s family mentioned on Instagram that they are considering getting him a new furry companion in the near future.

Following their heartbreaking announcement, many people reached out to express their condolences and support for Browser during his grieving period.

“Oh, my big buddy. It’s tough. It takes time. Your pawrents love you dearly, and you will eventually feel okay without your beloved big sister. Sending lots of love to all of you, big guy,” one user commented.

Others chimed in: “Oh, Bowser, I’m so sorry for your and your family’s loss of Sasha. It’s incredibly hard…hang in there. I’m sure you’re receiving plenty of love.”

Browser is dearly cherished by his family and the vast community of big dog lovers, so he will surely get through this. Feel free to follow him on Instagram and TikTok to keep up with his journey.
