Patience’s life has been far from easy. Just two years ago, she was a hopeful shelter dog in New Jersey, with a forever home waiting for her. However, after less than a year, her adopters made the heartbreaking decision to abandon her once again, leaving her without hope.
Instead of remaining hopeful for a better tomorrow, Patience lost her faith entirely, retreating into herself and shutting out the world. She would sit in the corner of her small kennel, facing the wall, a sight that devastated her caregivers who were determined to bring her back from despair.
The Sight That Breaks Hearts
Patience’s heartbreaking situation tugged at the heartstrings of volunteers from SNARR Northeast. Witnessing her sitting with her back to everything and trying to withdraw from the world, they could no longer stand by idly. They immediately rushed to her aid.
“In a crowded, chaotic city shelter in New Jersey, Patience sat alone, facing the wall, frozen with fear,” wrote SNARR Northeast on Instagram. However, uncovering the full story behind Patience was even more distressing: she was not just hopeless; she was also mentally defeated. Unable to lift her head to look at potential adopters, she only bowed her head in sorrow, reinforcing her caregivers’ worry.
“She’s shut down, mentally defeated, and lost. Patience doesn’t look at anyone because she doesn’t believe anyone sees her,” the rescue added.
After being adopted into a loving home, Patience was later found on the streets of New Jersey, alone and severely injured. Despite the vagueness of her past, caregivers suspected she had been hit by a car at some point, leaving her with a spinal injury and a complete loss of peripheral sight. She could only see what was directly in front of her.
Fortunately, the dedicated team at SNARR Northeast believed in her potential. Recognizing that Patience needed a tranquil and secure environment to start anew, they tirelessly searched for the perfect foster home and eventually found an ideal fit.

Who would have believed that such a traumatized dog could undergo such a remarkable transformation in a short time? But with the right fostering and an abundance of love, this sweet Pittie started to show her true colors.
Emerging as a quirky and joyful companion, Patience now embraces every moment with those who love her, all while getting ready to begin her neurological treatment. In this new phase of her life, she will discover the joys of being a dog in a loving home and will never again have to worry about returning to that small kennel!
