Martin, a rescue dog, wasn’t always the sole dog in his home. He had a sister named Alma, a Labrador Retriever puppy, who sadly departed this world.
Dogs are known to form deep emotional connections not just with their human companions but also with fellow pets. They can exhibit signs of grief when a loved one, be it a person or another animal, dies.
After Alma’s passing, Martin fell into a state of depression and solitude.
Everything changed one day when a small, furry creature entered his life, helping him heal his broken spirit.
Love At First Sight
“He went through some depression because Alma wasn’t here anymore. He was really lonely and sad,” shared Emilia Ivan, Martin’s owner, in an interview with The Dodo.
Emilia and her boyfriend attempted various strategies to lift Martin’s spirits, but nothing seemed to work.
One day, a friend discovered a young abandoned kitten in a nearby field, alone and without any siblings.
The kitten was still incredibly small and required bottle-feeding to survive.
Upon hearing about the kitten needing a loving home, they knew they must step in.
In short, they adopted the kitten and welcomed her into their family.
Initially, they were nervous about how Martin would react, especially since he had never interacted with a kitten before.
However, the moment the two met, their apprehensions dissipated.
“The first night they met, it was love at first sight,” Emilia recounted.
Once the little kitten touched Martin’s paw, he showered her with gentle kisses and cuddles. It was as if they were meant to be together.
Seeing this heartwarming scene, Emilia and her boyfriend’s hearts swelled with joy for their pets.
Emilia shared a video of Martin and the new kitten, playfully remarking: “She’s his new toy”.

The More, The Merrier
About a month later, Emilia’s boyfriend stumbled upon another kitten on the street, and they couldn’t resist adopting yet another!
The two kittens eagerly started playing together, displaying a remarkable sisterly connection. Strangely, they even looked almost identical.
True to his nature, Martin welcomed the second kitten with open paws.
“He pays a lot of attention to them and takes care of them. He behaves like he’s their mother, and they’re his daughters,” Emilia expressed.
Having the kittens around has significantly aided Martin in overcoming his feelings of sadness and isolation.
“He seems grateful for them. I’ve always cherished Martin, but witnessing how he looks after the kittens, being gentle and playful with them… it’s truly magical,” Emilia shared.
