Typically, golf aficionados visit the courses to unwind and engage in their beloved sport without the anticipation of any unexpected events. That was precisely the case when a group of golfers arrived at Garland’s Fire Wheel Golf Course for a round of golf.
However, the game was abruptly interrupted when they spotted a furry animal near a creek. Immediately intrigued, they abandoned their game to investigate the situation.
It didn’t take long for them to discover a dog stranded at the edge of Rowlett Creek in Garland, Texas. The dog seemed reluctant to move, and the golfers felt unable to assist on their own.
Consequently, they swiftly called for help.
Successful Rescue Mission

Responding promptly to the golfers’ distress call, the rescuers from Garland Animal Services (GAS) rushed to the scene, joined by the firefighters from the Garland Fire Department (GFD).
“Rescue 8 was dispatched to assist Animal Control in reaching a dog believed to be stranded on the creek bank at Fire Wheel Golf Course,” stated the fire department in their Facebook post.
Without hesitation, one of the firefighters ventured into the water and made his way across the creek, where the dog was quietly waiting on the narrow bank.

Upon reaching the dog, the firefighter first attempted to coax it into the water, but unfortunately, this strategy was unsuccessful. In a split second, he adjusted his approach, choosing to pet the dog to help it relax.
This alternative tactic proved effective as he gradually gained the dog’s trust. Once he realized this, he picked the dog up and safely carried him to solid ground.
The fire department later shared a rescue video on Facebook, which garnered significant attention.
Initially unaware, the firefighters soon discovered that the dog had an owner, as they found a collar with contact details belonging to his mother.
Safe After So Long

Once the rescuers identified the dog’s owner, they reached out to Joan Landry, his mother, who shared the backstory of the event.
“This is my dog, Bubba,” Joan commented. “We’ve been searching for him for over two days!”
She explained that during the mission by GAS and GFD, the community in Sachse, Texas, where the dog lived, mobilized to locate Bubba. Sadly, there hadn’t been any clues, causing great distress for his mother.
“I was in tears for [two] days, walking the neighborhood while neighbors kept an eye out for him!” Joan wrote in a comment.
As per his family, Bubba had escaped four days prior through an open gate. During that time, Joan was inconsolable until she received the call from the dedicated rescuers, which brought her immense joy.
Back Where He Belongs

Receiving the call from the firefighters left Joan ecstatic, as her beloved pet had been located. Yet, she remained puzzled over how he ended up in such a situation.
“The thought of him being in the creek baffles me. Did he leap in for a swim on that hot day?” Joan pondered in an interview with WFAA.
Regardless of the circumstances, her overwhelming joy prevailed, knowing that Bubba was alive and safe, and she eagerly awaited their reunion.
Fortunately, the moment came swiftly, and that touching scene was captured by WFAA cameras.
The joy illuminating Joan’s face, along with the dedication shown by the community to find her furry companion, exemplifies the profound bond we share with our beloved pets. It is a love that transcends realms.
