Each dog has their beloved toy, and Chance certainly knows his!
This Golden Retriever from San Diego has played with numerous stuffed animals since he was a pup, but there’s one special toy that stands out as his favorite.
Knowing this, his mom decided to surprise him with a larger version of the cherished toy, though what started as a simple gift became something much more significant!
Chance’s Beloved Toy
Shannen Standiford, Chance’s owner, knows all too well about her dog’s affection for one specific toy – a little Christmas-themed pickle. This quirky toy has inexplicably stolen Chance’s heart, even though it was originally a toy of his late feline sibling.
Whenever the cat wasn’t focused, Chance would attempt to claim the pickle for himself. Following the cat’s passing, Chance cherished this toy even more, refusing to let go of it.
Along with his devoted mom, it’s safe to say that Chance has an undeniable obsession with his pickle. This toy is his ultimate favorite, and he carries it with him everywhere he goes.
He cuddles with it, enjoys sunsets with it, naps and sleeps with it, and does everything he can to be with it!
In contrast to other plush toys, which he would usually destroy, he treats this one delicately, as if treating it like corn on the cob.
When he’s not nibbling it, he showers it with kisses or carries it around as if the pickle is his closest companion!
This is why his mom committed to expanding Chance’s “pickle collection” by adding a few more toys into the mix!
It all began as an impulse when Shannen spotted some larger versions of the same Christmas pickle in pet stores. She intended to surprise her pup while ensuring he had backup pickles in case he wore them out.
“He has so many little ones he is gentle with. He just tosses them around and nibbles on them,” his mom shared on TikTok.

One day, Shannen discovered a giant version of Chance’s beloved pickle at Petco, and her heart skipped a beat!
Without hesitation, she bought it to surprise her Golden Retriever. When she got back to her California home, the reaction was priceless!
The moment Chance laid eyes on the giant replica of his favorite toy, his expression transformed with joy! He eagerly grabbed the pickle, trotted to the couch, and “initiated the ritual.”
