At Dove Creek Animal Hospital, the staff faces a dynamic array of patients and medical issues each day, resulting in constant excitement and engagement.
The team at this New York veterinary clinic has seen an array of surprises over the years, but one particular incident with a German Shepherd left them utterly stunned.
Though surprised, the experience brought a new level of joy and plenty of big smiles to the team.
Cone Of Shame Or Cone Of PRIDE?
The moment was captured by the hospital’s CCTV and subsequently shared on their partner hospital’s TikTok page.
The amusing video quickly went viral, drawing in millions of views.
Curiosity piqued, you might be asking what this German Shepherd did…?

The footage features a black and tan German Shepherd named Ranger alongside his owners, who are engaged in conversation with the veterinarian.
Having just had his neck cone (commonly referred to as the “cone of shame” due to dogs’ aversion to it) removed, Ranger was exuberant.
As the veterinarian chatted with the owners, she nonchalantly set the cone on the floor, and to everyone’s surprise, the dog immediately lunged for it.
Ranger, almost on cue, managed to put the cone back on his neck and looked up at the veterinarian with a sense of pride, leaving her utterly flabbergasted.

The narrator of the video remarked: “This might just be the first instance of this happening in the annals of dog history. In our time at the veterinary practice, we’re still astonished. The pup didn’t need the e-collar anymore, but he was so fond of it that he chose to put it back on himself.”
The veterinarian burst into laughter. Check it out:

Ranger was so pleased with himself that he kept seeking validation.
Dogs Usually Dislike It
It was astonishing for the veterinarian to see Ranger don his cone again, as dogs typically are not fond of wearing them.
Interestingly, this marked the first occasion the New York veterinary staff encountered such behavior in a dog. However, based on comments, it appears that other dogs also have an affinity for their “cones of shame.”
“It’s a German shepherd trait; mine did the same. After she recovered from surgery, we discovered she would put it on herself at bedtime,” recounted one person.
Another user commented, “Awwww, my Shepherd was identical!! She would cry for us to put the cone back on!”
Some dogs seem to relish the praise and attention they receive when wearing the cone, which may contribute to their desire to wear it.
Often, they receive pets and treats as rewards, adding to their enthusiasm for the cone.
While we may not fully understand Ranger’s intentions, one thing is certain—he is undoubtedly a first-rate good boy!
