Georgia Rescuers Discover Donation Box and Are Stunned by Its Contents

Date:

Do you know how many dogs end up in shelters every year? A couple of million, that’s for sure. The number changes and varies from one year to another. Last I heard, over 6 million dogs were surrendered to shelters in the USA. That’s 6 million broken hearts! Can you imagine the pain these 6 million dogs endure? Without animal shelters and rescue organizations, who knows what fate awaits those poor pups in need.

Unfortunately, the situation is alarming. Shelters operate with the best intentions but can’t run on air. They need funds, and the country simply does not provide enough. Many of them lack basic necessities like dog food and medical supplies, relying heavily on donations from compassionate individuals. Kind-hearted animal lovers and donors are the backbone of every shelter. No donations mean no lives saved—that’s the straightforward reality.

One shelter in Georgia is always welcoming donations, even setting up a box outside for those wanting to help with food and supplies. One morning, staff members encountered something surprising—not just the usual bags of kibble, but something much more heartwarming!

What’s In The Box?

Every working day at Moultrie Colquitt County Humane Society (MCCHS) begins early, often before 6 AM. Staff members routinely check the donation box outside the shelter before commencing their tasks. Although the box isn’t usually overflowing, there are often at least a couple of bags of kibble inside, providing at least some help for the pups.

However, this particular morning was different. In addition to the expected two bags of kibble, the staff discovered two puppies curled up in the back of the box!

Saved Just In Time

It’s summer in Georgia, and it’s scorching. Imagine the discomfort of being inside a wooden box with no air holes. Those pups were essentially trapped in a sauna—sweating and gasping for air. When the staff found them, the heat hit them like a wave; they were saved just in time. Had the shelter workers not opened the box that morning, the outcome would have been dire.

The MCCHS staff reviewed their security cameras and discovered that someone had left the two pups sometime after 10:30 PM. No one was around the shelter at that late hour, meaning the little ones spent the entire night in the box, hoping someone would find them. Fortunately, after a thorough examination, the puppies were found to be in good condition—no visible infections and healthy coats! They looked like regular puppies!

Polly and Dolly, as they named them, were initially shy, but their personalities soon shone through as they expressed their joy at being alive and cared for. One of the shelter workers said,

“They are very playful pups and love attention from people and enjoy playtime.”

Now, about three months old, Polly and Dolly are ready to find their forever families. The MCCHS recently posted them up for adoption, already receiving numerous inquiries about the adorable duo from the box. It’s clear these fortunate girls will find loving homes in no time. The dedicated workers at MCCHS continue to check the donation box regularly, knowing that another pup might pay a visit in the night.
