Nobody knew the circumstances surrounding Ghost, a 18-month-old Husky, before he was rescued from the streets and taken to Carson Animal Shelter in California. Since his arrival, he showed clear signs of anxiety and fear. Despite the shelter staff and volunteers’ efforts to help him adjust, his condition only worsened. The more time Ghost spent in the shelter, the more he isolated himself, cowering in corners and avoiding any interaction.
Trying To Help Ghost

The shelter staff noticed that Ghost would only eat a few bites of food under the cover of darkness. A dedicated volunteer, Melissa, began spending time with him in his kennel, playing soothing music to help him feel secure. Unfortunately, despite her efforts, Ghost remained withdrawn. On walks, he froze in fear, curling up in the bushes, wishing to escape the world. Melissa often had to carry him back to his kennel, which left everyone at the shelter heartbroken.
Desperate to help him, Jan Vega, another volunteer, shared a video of Ghost on social media, seeking a foster. The heartbreaking footage went viral, reaching a compassionate family willing to offer him a foster home.
Ghost Breaks Free

Shadow Husky Rescue from Temecula took notice of the video and stepped in to rescue Ghost, transporting him to his new foster home. The rescue team described Ghost as the most shut down dog they had ever encountered, indicating that he was likely abused in the past. Upon arrival, his foster mom set aside a specific room for him to decompress and kept her other dogs waiting to meet him.
Thanks to her loving approach, Ghost gradually began to feel safe, making strides in building his confidence. He started going on short walks and eating his meals entirely, signaling progress. Ghost will remain in his foster home until he is fully healed and ready for his forever home. With the support from those who cared for him, Ghost now has a second chance at happiness, and that is a wonderful outcome for all who loved him.
