There’s nothing quite as uplifting as witnessing a long-term shelter dog finally find a loving home. Yet, it’s utterly heartbreaking to see that same dog returned to a shelter.
Such a distressing tale unfolded in New Jersey, and it left me astounded.
A dog named Burrito was eagerly awaiting the day he could show his true self in a new home. Unfortunately, when that moment arrived, instead of a permanent home, Burrito experienced yet another heartbreak!
A Note From Burrito’s Foster

Before being adopted by an older couple, Burrito spent several lovely weeks with his foster owner, Isabella.
Then came the much-anticipated adoption day!
A couple adopted Burrito from South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter in New Jersey, but within just two days, they decided to return him. They reported that the dog was too aggressive and had bitten his new dad on the hand.
“This dog was taken back to the shelter in less than 48 hours after being adopted due to biting and aggression,” Isabella shared in a TikTok video.
Upon hearing this news, Isabella felt a mix of devastation and confusion. How could a dog as gentle as Burrito turn into an aggressive one in such a short time?
What transpired?
What provoked this aggression in Burrito, or was it merely an excuse to return him?
In response, she recorded a video to showcase the dog’s sweet nature.
The video features her enjoying a delightful cuddle session with this charming shelter pup.
“This is all he has done for the last two weeks. This is our routine,” she remarked.

Once Isabella learned the complete story, she felt compelled to share it publicly again.
According to the shelter, Burrito bit his new owner when the owner attempted to remove him from the car.
“Once they got home, he wouldn’t exit the car. The husband reached in, grabbed Burrito, and pulled him out of the car. Burrito reacted by biting him on the hand,” Isabella explained in another video.
Even though he wasn’t particularly fond of her father, Burrito never exhibited aggressive behavior toward him; he simply kept his distance.
A Fresh Start

Being back in the shelter wasn’t beneficial for Burrito, given the noise and stress of being in a cramped kennel.
Moreover, after finally tasting freedom, the thought of being confined again was understandably heartbreaking for him!

Fortunately, this sweet pup with strikingly beautiful eyes was moved to a different, long-term behavioral foster home.
Currently, Burrito isn’t available for adoption and will spend his days relaxing and recovering. The bright side is that he’ll continue to enjoy a home environment just for him. When the time is right, I’m certain he will find a true forever home.
Wishing you all the best, Burrito!
