Florida Shelter’s Beloved Long-Time Resident Left Heartbroken as Potential Adopters Overlook Her at Event

Date:

Animal shelters strive to find loving forever homes for every fur baby in their care. One way they achieve this is through adoption events. When Orange County Animal Services (OCAS) in Orlando, Florida, organized such an event, they knew who the star of the show would be.

Amid the adorable puppies and hypoallergenic dogs was a sweet pup named Baby Girl—OCAS’s longest-serving resident—whose biggest dream was to be part of a loving family.

Meet Baby Girl

An incredible Pittie mix named Baby Girl entered the Orlando shelter after being rescued from a dangerous situation. “[S]omeone observed a timid dog attempting to cross a busy interstate. They successfully saved her,” OCAS shared on Facebook. Following her rescue, Baby Girl was welcomed warmly at OCAS and settled into her new home.

She then met the OCAS vet team, who performed a thorough medical examination. The results confirmed that she was a healthy 9-year-old girl, and her loving nature quickly became apparent.

“She is gentle and sweet with people and gets along well with other dogs. Although we know little about her past or how long she was a stray, one thing is clear: she deserves better than to spend her senior years in a kennel,” OCAS stated on Facebook.

Foster Home

Even as the dedicated staff worked tirelessly to find Baby Girl a loving home, they recognized the value of a foster environment where she could relax and decompress. Fortunately, volunteer Su Morrison had become smitten with Baby Girl and was eager to welcome her into her home.

Spending time in her new environment worked wonders for Baby Girl. Moving away from the chaotic noises of the kennel and into a cozy, loving home allowed her to display her true, lovable personality.

“Having Baby in our home is a delight. The longer she stays, the more of her goofy side we see. She’s such a happy girl,” Morrison shared with OCAS, later posted on Facebook.

Another Try

Despite feeling at home in her foster environment, Baby Girl remained optimistic about finding her forever home. When the next adoption event arrived, OCAS positioned her front and center, hoping a loving human would finally choose her.

Sadly, that didn’t happen. During the event, no one stopped by her kennel; she was overlooked as everyone passed by, leaving her feeling disheartened.

As the event came to a close, fifty-eight other residents found their forever homes, while Baby Girl returned to her foster home feeling more disheartened than ever.

“No one is lining up outside for hours for this sweet girl. No one is fighting for her. It’s heartbreaking,” OCAS expressed.

Just when Baby Girl thought hope was fading, she received life-changing news!

Good Things Come To Those Who Wait

Morrison, Baby Girl’s foster, was so enchanted by her presence that the thought of her leaving filled her with sorrow. To prevent this, she decided to adopt Baby Girl herself!

Now, Baby Girl is living her dream, spending joyful days with her favorite humans, enjoying long, relaxing walks and car rides!

And she couldn’t be happier.

“Another foster fail, another happy dog,” Morrison remarked in a Facebook comment.
