Florida Shelter Staff Stunned by This Pup’s Reaction After Being Surrendered

Date:

Many shelter dogs, particularly black ones, never get to enjoy the warmth of a loving family. This heartbreaking reality stems from “black dog syndrome,” where dogs like Vera are frequently overlooked in their small kennels.

Fortunately, Vera has a supportive community rallying behind her, along with an unexpected and effective method to attract potential adopters!

How Did She Do It

After being surrendered to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay in Florida by her family, Vera faced several unsuccessful adoption events. Whether it was due to her black color or her larger Doberman mix stature, it’s hard to say.

In an effort to change her luck, her caregivers teamed up with Adam, the founder of Tampa Pet Photo Studio, to boost Vera’s exposure.

Adam’s “Second Shot” program offered the perfect solution. The initiative gives shelter pups a new photo to help them reach more people on social media—now it was Vera’s turn.

Little did they know that Vera’s “shocking talent” would also capture hearts! During her photoshoot, she exhibited nervousness, clinging to a shelter volunteer. But after receiving gentle cuddles, she began stretching in an unusual manner.

Suddenly, she flicked out her back paw and dropped to the floor as if kneeling, a position her caregivers had never observed in a dog!

“We had never seen a dog sit like Vera was sitting before! It had us pretty concerned, but she didn’t seem to be in any pain and it didn’t affect her walking,” Adam wrote on Instagram.

Initially, the team presumed Vera might have a health issue. However, a vet exam and X-ray revealed she was completely healthy. Vera’s distinctive sitting position was simply who she was.

Vera’s unique sitting posture went viral, drawing national attention as people commented and shared her video, bringing joy to the resilient dog.

Just days later, a woman contacted the Florida shelter, and the rest is history!

Adam, Vera’s photographer, shared the fantastic news on his Instagram just a few days later. In a post highlighting Vera’s remarkable skills, he announced that Vera found her forever home with a loving mom.

“We’re SO happy to report that Vera got adopted and is now living her best life,” he shared.

At last, after months of waiting and challenges, Vera—a joyful and spirited dog—is in the place she belongs, surrounded by a loving human who cherishes her deeply.
