No shelter puppy should have to spend their life in a kennel and miss the joys beyond the shelter walls. Unfortunately, Deuce, a one-and-a-half-year-old pup, found himself in this situation after being abandoned by his owner. He was taken in by the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast (HSTC) in Palm City, Florida, where he was showered with love, yet his heart longed for a forever home.
Deuce’s Disappointment
In November 2024, just two months after arriving at the shelter, Deuce received fantastic news: he was adopted! He joyfully said goodbye to his shelter friends, ready to start the new life he had always hoped for. However, that happiness was short-lived. After a month, he was returned because his owner’s health declined, leaving Deuce feeling rejected once more.
Upon returning to the shelter, Deuce was cheerful and greeted everyone with excitement, but deep down, the reality of being in the kennel again sank in. He waited patiently by his cage, eagerly reaching out with his paw whenever potential adopters approached, hoping to catch their attention.
“Deuce almost always has his paws up on the cage. He is always tracking people with his eyes, eager to get any small amount of attention,” said Sarah Fisher, communications manager at HSTC, to The Dodo.
Asking For A Chance To Be Happy
Despite the heartache, Deuce remains calm and gentle in his kennel. Yet, he transforms into a bundle of energy when someone takes him out for a walk. Unfortunately, many visitors are not prepared to invest the time needed for training, often overlooking him.
The staff at the Humane Society ensures that Deuce gets ample exercise daily through walks, agility training, and playtime in the yard. He has so much love to offer and is simply waiting for someone who will be patient and love him as he deserves.
Deuce is enthusiastic about training and shows consistent progress. Our lead trainer, Heidi Fischer, believes he would thrive in a home that offers daily exercise and leash training. She notes his eagerness to learn and great engagement during training sessions. Deuce continues to dream of freedom, waiting for someone to recognize what a wonderful companion he can be.
