In Florida, a homeowner named Lizette was excited to work in her garden, unaware that her plans were about to change drastically. While searching for tools in her shed, she discovered a mysterious intruder hiding in a plastic container: a small screech owl that had become trapped. Lizette was taken aback; the exhausted owl had likely been stuck for quite some time, and her concern for the bird’s well-being drove her to act swiftly to save it.
Rescuer Rushes To Help

Lizette quickly contacted WILD Florida Rescue in Satellite Beach for assistance. The dispatch team notified rescuer Kevin of the urgent situation, and he arrived at Lizette’s home promptly. Upon his arrival, he carefully extracted the owl from the plastic container, noting that there was also a pair of shredded garden gloves inside. According to WILD Florida Rescue, the poor creature may have been trapped for a day or more.

Fortunately, the bird, although lethargic and dehydrated, survived the ordeal. After the rescue, Lizette informed Kevin of another surprising discovery: the owl had laid an egg inside the cabinet. It became evident that the feathered guest was simply seeking a nesting spot before becoming ensnared in the container. To prevent a similar incident, Lizette decided to bring the cabinet back indoors.
Nursing The Owl To Health

The owl was struggling to regain her strength and required ongoing medical attention. She was subsequently transferred to WILD Florida Rescue, where the team provided exceptional care. Currently, she is gradually recovering, and the rescue team is optimistic about her full recovery. They look forward to witnessing her return to the wild and hope she makes a new nest soon.
The rescue organization urges homeowners to be cautious of birds nesting in sheds, recommending that doors remain open to prevent entrapments. As they stated,
“Always be conscious of shed doors being left open for periods of time so none of our furry and feathered friends get stuck!!” WILD Florida Rescue wrote.
I sincerely hope the screech owl achieves full health soon and returns to her natural habitat. A big thank you to Lizette for her swift action and to Kevin from WILD Florida Rescue for rescuing the owl’s life.
