Family Stunned to Discover Their Christmas Presents Had Been Opened Early

Date:

Sadly, not all dogs experience the warmth and affection of a loving home, as many spend their lives on harsh city streets.

For those lucky enough to find a forever home, they often need considerable patience and compassion while they adjust.

Some dogs may adapt quickly, while others might engage in some rather odd behaviors to fully understand their new environment.

The pup featured in this story is a prime example of this.

Home, Sweet Home

Angus, a dog who has spent most of his life on the streets, was welcomed into a warm home by a caring family.

As he took his time to acclimate, his new family dedicated themselves to demonstrating the joys and benefits of indoor living. Yet, Angus soon discovered the less desirable behaviors that can vex dog owners.

One of those behaviors includes his tendency to chew up whatever he finds.

“He doesn’t know how to play fetch, but he has a penchant for tearing apart stuffed toys or any squeaky item. Since he’s been with us, he has damaged several items due to separation anxiety… He’s chewed part of the couch, a brand-new ottoman, and two foam bed covers before he felt comfortable being left alone at home,” shared Angus’ mom, Debbie O’Hara, with The Dodo.

While Angus has managed to curtail his destructive tendencies, his self-control slips every holiday season.

Christmas Came Early

“Last Christmas Eve, he managed to open all of our gifts. He devoured a large box of Purdy’s chocolates and a four-pack of Kit Kats. His stomach is quite resilient, as he showed no signs of sickness from the chocolate. Some relatives received gifts with the boxes chewed up, and we even had to buy a new hoodie because he tore one open,” she shared.

After indulging in all those forbidden treats, the O’Hara family promptly took him to the vet to ensure he was alright. They quickly learned to keep chocolate far out of Angus’ reach.

Debbie also took it upon herself to start hiding the gifts, believing they would be safe from this little holiday rascal, yet Angus still managed to find a few surprises.

“This time I left one bag of unwrapped gifts where he could reach while we went shopping. He munched on toffee and peanut butter cups, leaving several boxes with tears in them, but that seems to be a recurring theme now. He shows no signs of stopping,” she lamented.

Despite the frustration that comes with this behavior, the O’Hara family can’t bring themselves to reprimand their lovable Angus, understanding that he means no harm.

Angus is simply a joyful pup who can hardly contain his enthusiasm about being part of a loving family that adores him so much.

“We love him as if he were our child, and it’s clear that he feels the same way,” Debbie concluded.

And there’s no doubt about it!
