I have always admired those willing to care for multiple pups; it’s a truly commendable act of kindness. Although managing a small dog family can be exhausting and costly, the joy it brings is remarkable. One couple demonstrated immense compassion when they adopted a scared mama dog and her eight puppies, a true commitment.
A Call That Changed Thom’s Life

When Thom received a call from a shelter worker in California regarding a pregnant Pittie in need of help, he was eager to assist. The shelter staff had cared for her well and found her to be exceptionally friendly. One night, the Pittie, named Cholula, unexpectedly gave birth to eight puppies, instinctively focusing on nurturing her new family.

Upon arriving at the shelter to foster Cholula, Thom noticed she was a bit timid and unsure of her new surroundings. However, she quickly warmed up to her new friends, and together they embarked on their journey to a loving home in California. Thom carefully brought the puppies inside while Mama Cholula watched over them, ensuring their safe arrival.
A New Home For The Family

To ensure they had a comfortable space, Thom made some adjustments, transforming his office into a nursery for Cholula and her puppies. He shared with The Dodo: “I turned my office into a nursery and let her get settled in.” The couple was in awe of Cholula’s attentiveness; she never strayed far from her puppies, who occasionally explored but always returned for a nap.

Eventually, Thom introduced Cholula to their dog, Ruby, and to everyone’s delight, they bonded instantly, seeming to find comfort in each other’s presence. Thom noted, “They were so drawn to each other right away. It was almost like she needed Ruby to feel safe.”
Saying Their Goodbyes

As time passed, the puppies opened their eyes, discovering a fascinating new world. They eagerly explored their surroundings, and soon Cholula grew attached to her foster parents. But, after long days of caring for them, Thom noticed she would tire out and needed help getting to bed. Despite everyone being worn out, the couple adapted well, engaging in various activities throughout the day. Thom particularly enjoyed their mornings watching Disney movies together with Cholula.

Eventually, the puppies were allowed outside to experience the world, which often resulted in a bit of messiness and reluctance for bath time. As they grew older, both Cholula and her puppies prepared for adoption, a bittersweet transition for the couple who had grown attached. Ultimately, Thom reflected, “That’s the thing with fostering. Even though it never gets easier saying goodbye, I just can’t wait to do it all over again.”
