In our communities, there are truly remarkable individuals who operate discreetly. They may not don capes, but their hearts are pure. These heroes devote their time and resources to assist those in need, expecting nothing in exchange, finding joy only in seeing smiles on others’ faces.
A Selfless Mission

Today, we highlight Marc, a DTE electrician in Detroit, who was working at an abandoned house when he noticed a pair of scared puppies in the backyard. One appeared injured, and both looked undernourished. Despite their fear, Marc slowly approached them, hoping to gain their trust, but they maintained their distance.
“I normally keep treats on my truck but I ran out…they wanted to trust me but they just weren’t sure,” Marc shared, referencing his experience in a post by DPCDR. He quickly contacted Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue, a non-profit dedicated to rescuing injured and sick strays. The organization’s director, Theresa Sumpter, responded promptly.

The DPCDR team swiftly arrived at the scene. It was revealed that local kids had been feeding the dogs, who were living on the streets without an owner. After some hesitation, the pups gradually warmed up to Theresa, who offered them treats, ultimately gaining their trust.
Recovering Towards A Forever Home

After crating the dogs, Sumpter took them to the vet for their initial checkup. In the crate and at the hospital, they were timid and uncertain. Recognizing that it would take time for Grace and Mercy to adapt to their new surroundings, Sumpter and her team exercised patience. The pups had likely spent their entire lives on the streets, away from any form of socialization.

After two weeks of consistent interaction, a remarkable transformation occurred. Grace and Mercy emerged as new dogs, shedding their fears and becoming comfortable around humans. Their journey to trust was ignited by a bit of love. With the potential to experience a nurturing home life, these deserving pups are now ready for adoption. After enduring hardships, they truly warrant a loving family to show them the joys of life! We hope for their happiness to come soon!
