I have witnessed terrible acts of cruelty towards animals, but nothing tugs at my heart more than the sight of helpless animals being abandoned.
Cases involving special needs animals, such as paralyzed dogs, often end tragically due to the negligence of their owners, which is simply heartbreaking.
Navidad was no exception. She was left paralyzed and abandoned in the woods by her previous owners, left to fend for herself.
Fortunately, an elderly couple heard her desperate cries and rushed to her aid. Upon bringing her home, they promptly sought help for her situation.
They Rescued Her Just In Time
When Mafe heard about Navidad, she quickly drove to the small town where the dog was located. It took a little while, but she managed to find her.
Upon meeting Navidad, Mafe was taken aback by the dire condition of the dog. The poor animal seemed to have lost all fear.
Navidad seemed to realize that these new people were looking out for her. Mafe took her back to the rescue for a veterinary assessment.
That was the turning point. Mafe recalled saying to The Dodo: “When we arrived at the rescue, she was incredibly confused and frightened.”
The staff at the rescue were puzzled by her sudden change in demeanor, yet they dedicated themselves to providing all the assistance Navidad needed.
The following day, her attitude shifted once more. The pup radiated joy when she saw her rescuer and lavished her with hugs for a long time.
Despite being paralyzed and unable to move freely, it was evident that Navidad still cherished every opportunity to get around.
Her energy levels bounced back, and it was clear for everyone to see. Naturally, the team provided her with in-depth therapy to help her regain her strength. Navidad was thrilled to participate, especially as long as she was surrounded by caring individuals.
Navidad Is Just So Adorable
Once they realized she was improving, they provided her with a wheelchair. Mafe shared: “She initially faced some challenges adapting. However, she looked so delighted every time we took her for a stroll.”
Navidad formed a wonderful bond with Mafe and was always overjoyed to accompany her on walks. This was essential as she became more proficient in using the wheelchair.
An additional significant development was that Navidad’s skin conditions improved drastically, and she gained back a significant amount of weight.
Recognizing her progress, Mafe decided it was time to transport her to an animal sanctuary where Navidad could thrive while awaiting her forever home.
Currently, she is thriving under the care of her rescuers, and it is truly heartwarming to witness her transformation in such a short time.
Ultimately, Mafe expressed: “I wish to adopt Navidad, but my life revolves around rescuing dogs just like her, so I know she deserves a family that can provide her with all the love and attention she requires.”
While the future remains uncertain for Navidad, I have faith that she is flourishing in her sanctuary and is bound to discover someone special to give her a forever home.
