The heartbreak of losing a pet, even for a few hours, is unimaginable. When a New York owner discovered that his Golden Retriever, Carmal, had escaped her lead and vanished into the snowy woods, he immediately began searching for her. As night fell and eight new inches of snow blanketed the ground, the task became increasingly daunting, and nothing could be heard—Carmal was lost and her family was filled with uncertainty.
She Was Stranded And Couldn’t Find A Way Out
Chad Tavernia, a retired State Police investigator and now a hero for lost pets, answered their desperate plea for help through North County Drone Search & Recovery. Using a drone equipped with a thermal camera, he began scanning the area to locate Carmal. Upon receiving the family’s call, he quickly made his way to the location and launched his drone.
After thoroughly scanning the area, the drone’s thermal camera spotted a dog tangled in bushes, seemingly trapped in the woods. Switching to the zoom function, Chad confirmed it was indeed Carmal, nestled near a tree, keeping warm by melting snow around her. Stranded but safe, she was patiently awaiting help.
“Upon switching to the zoom camera, he could see it was in fact Carmal, bedded near a tree and heavy brush and she had melted the snow around her to bare ground,” Chad remarked in a Facebook post.
After confirming Carmal’s identity, Chad promptly notified her owner and guided him through the snowy terrain to rescue her. It took the owner approximately twenty minutes to reach her, but when he arrived, Carmal joyously greeted him.
“After approximately 20 minutes, Maverick was able to assist her owner through the deep snow in the woods to where Carmal was freed from entanglement and returned home safely,” Chad stated on Facebook.
Returned Home Safely
Carmal and her owner safely returned to their New York home after a harrowing night, finally reunited. Once home, Carmal relaxed, enjoying the warmth of her family’s presence, completely oblivious to the frightful ordeal she had just experienced.
Chad was thrilled to witness the heartwarming reunion of Carmal with her owner. This kind-hearted man remains committed to helping other pet parents find their missing companions, transforming what began as a small venture into a mission that saves lives. “If it is within my control, I will always do my absolute best to respond as quickly as possible to find them,” he concluded.
