Suzette Hall has always had a passion for dogs, but after her son Logan’s tragic passing, she turned her love into a mission to rescue these furry companions. This led her to establish a non-rescue organization, Logan’s Legacy 29, through which she has already saved countless lives.
One day, when her close friend Nanette informed her about a homeless dog spotted near her workplace, Suzette didn’t hesitate to embark on a rescue mission. This unfortunate Shepherd mix, later called Loy, had previously lived in a nearby apartment building with his owner.
Sadly, the building had burned down, and his owner was missing, which left the poor dog wandering aimlessly in search of safety and comfort.
The harsh circumstances surrounding Loy’s situation, combined with the fact that he was a Shepherd mix, a breed that held special significance for Suzette, compelled her to rush to the area without delay.
A Vicious Cycle of Despair

Upon her arrival, Hall quickly recognized that this would be a challenging task. With no home and no owner in sight, the frightened dog was in a state of distress.
“We don’t know what happened to his owner,” Hall shared in a Facebook post. “[The] poor baby was so sad and lonely … completely petrified.”
However, the kind-hearted individuals were determined to help him. They trailed Loy for an extended period, hoping for the right moment to act. During this time, he cleverly evaded capture, only briefly showing himself on the road, where he narrowly avoided being hit by a car. Eventually, they discovered his routine when a camera caught him at a cat feeding station.

“[The] poor baby was so hungry, he would go [to] the cat feeding station for food …” Hall recounted. “The cats scared him.”
After a failed attempt, Loy returned to the site of the burnt building, the only home he had ever known. Hall and Nanette recognized that this was a heartbreaking cycle of despair that he couldn’t seem to break free from.
“[T]his sweet boy kept going back to the only home he ever knew, back to the fire,” Hall reflected. “He wanted so [badly] to go back and find his home the way it used to be.”
This poignant reality only fueled their determination to rescue Loy, prompting them to remain vigilant for as long as it would take until the time was right.
A Meaningful Rescue
The wait in that sorrowful location to capture Loy was challenging, yet their perseverance eventually yielded results.
“This morning, I arrived early … I saw him frantically going in and out of his old home,” Hall noted. “There was nothing left but soot and ashes. I set my trap and prayed.”
After setting the trap, Hall distanced herself so that Loy wouldn’t see her. A loud bark soon signaled their triumph.

It took a considerable amount of time for Loy to settle, as the entire ordeal had been quite traumatic. Nevertheless, Hall and Nanette worked relentlessly to reassure him of his safety, ultimately succeeding.
Before long, Loy and Hall were en route to the veterinary clinic, where fortunately, the vet declared his health to be excellent.
Determined to secure a bright future for this Shepherd mix, Hall swiftly located a foster home for him.

Although the emotional scars from losing his home remain, Loy is steadily recovering thanks to the unwavering love of his foster family. Hall’s joy for Loy’s journey was especially profound, as she was driven by an even deeper motivation to assist this dog.
Her late son, who adored dogs and inspired the founding of the rescue organization, had a special fondness for Shepherds. This connection gave her mission a personal significance, and she dedicated its success to his memory.
“Rescued in loving memory of my angel 😇,” Hall concluded.
