Dog’s Heartbreaking Reaction as He Realizes His Owner is Leaving Him at a North Carolina Shelter

Date:

The love we hold for our canine companions is boundless and everlasting. Our pups can feel this affection, knowing we remain by their side through thick and thin. Sadly, however, some dogs pour their hearts into owners who don’t value them. These heartless individuals abandon their loyal pets when they age.

Seymour, a gentle senior dog, has experienced the sting of betrayal by those he trusted. After dedicating eighteen years of love to his owners, they discarded him at a shelter, even requesting that he be euthanized. Filled with fear, he clung tightly to his owner’s leg, fully aware that he was facing a dreadful fate.

The Saddest Eyes That Asked For Help

Chrissy, a dedicated dog rescuer, was at the shelter that day to help. She was there to rescue dogs for Forgotten, Now Family Rescue, located in Charlotte, North Carolina. Upon arriving, she noticed Seymour, an elderly dog who could barely walk—clearly neglected and terrified. “He was caked in flea dirt and the smell from the infection he had was clearing the lobby,” Chrissy recounted to The Dodo.

The sadness in his eyes spoke volumes as he clung to his owner’s leg, desperately hoping not to be abandoned. Chrissy learned that Seymour had spent eighteen years with his family, only for them to want him euthanized now. Heartbroken, she made a decision: Seymour would leave with her and receive the care he so desperately needed.

Chrissy and her fellow rescuer, Carcy, attempted to persuade Seymour’s owner to allow them to take him to the vet, but he initially refused. Chrissy signaled to the staff that she would take Seymour with her, and after his owner departed, Seymour looked around in confusion, wondering why he was left all alone.

The Life He Was Always Supposed To Have

As soon as Chrissy approached Seymour, she gently stroked him, assuring him that he was not alone and that she would not leave him in a cold kennel—something he had endured much too long. Seymour, shocked by this touch, began to realize that he didn’t know what true love felt like. With growths and masses visible on his body, Chrissy decided to take him in as a fospice pup. She rushed him to the vet, determined to do everything possible to alleviate his suffering.

After the masses were removed, Seymour began his recovery in Chrissy’s home. He was enveloped in love and support from Chrissy’s entire family, including the little ones, who showed him what life was meant to be like.

Initially, many doubted that Seymour had much time left, but through the love he received, he defied expectations. “I anticipated a short hospice period, and even a few days of comfort would be worth it. Instead, he has given me 13 months and continues to thrive,” Chrissy reflected.

Seymour marveled at how drastically his life had transformed; he was no longer that heartbroken, unwanted dog. He had secured his place as a cherished member of the family, who all fell in love with his gentle spirit and kind demeanor. Chrissy is eternally grateful to have Seymour in their lives, and she and her family will love and treasure him every single day.

“I was there just at the right moment, and our hearts were absolutely meant to be,” Chrissy shared. Finally, Seymour knows the warmth of unconditional love and care. He thrives in Charlotte, North Carolina, relishing every moment with his forever family and basking in their endless affection.
