Dog Who Spent Half Her Life in a Virginia Shelter Faces Challenges in Finding a Forever Home

Date:

Animal shelters exist to provide care, food, and shelter to animals in need until they can be placed in loving homes of their own.

Although many shelters exude warmth and compassion, they often reach capacity, leaving animals feeling neglected as staff struggle to provide the necessary attention.

This underscores the importance of finding these animals a foster or permanent home swiftly, so they can be in an environment that affirms their worthiness of love.

Sadly, some animals remain in shelters longer than anticipated, which can lead to feelings of heartbreak and depression.

Kubo, along with his four siblings, was rescued and taken to the Franklin County Humane Society Planned Pethood & Adoption Center (FCHSPPAC) in Rocky Mount, Virginia, in March 2018. This delightful group was eager to begin a new chapter in their lives.

Miraculously, after just two weeks in the shelter and at only seven weeks old, all of the charming siblings found their forever homes.

Sadly, after 376 days, a familiar figure re-entered the shelter. Kubo was returned.

“The first adopter took him in as a puppy but did not provide the needed guidance or stability. Upon his return, he was an adult with no training,” recounted Anita, director of FCHSPPAC, in a conversation with Newsweek.

After being adopted again in May 2021, he remained at the shelter for an additional 76 days.

After some time with his new family, Kubo’s owner faced job and housing challenges, leading to his surrender once again.

As of now, Kubo still hasn’t found a new family, spending over 900 days at the shelter in Virginia.

“Of his 2,105 days of life, he has spent 1,088 in a home and 902 in a shelter. In 65 days, he will have spent half his life in a shelter,” she noted.

Anita and her team from the shelter are making every effort to help this charming five-year-old Whippet mix find the loving home he rightfully deserves.

“Kubo is looking for a person who can provide safety as he adapts to the outside world. Someone willing to allow him to decompress and learn the new experiences he hasn’t faced yet,” she emphasized.

Third Time’s The Charm

The perfect family for this lovely pup would be those who enjoy outdoor activities and are ready to devote their time to him.

“Given the length of his stay at the shelter, Kubo has grown wary of strangers. When walking with familiar people, he’ll pass by strangers without reacting. He prefers to be introduced to newcomers without immediate physical contact, but he adapts quickly,” instructed Anita.

Kubo has a fondness for children, having spent considerable time with them during one of his previous adoptions.

Kubo is a healthy dog with no medical issues, eagerly awaiting a family to fill his days with love, happiness, and playfulness.
