I often pondered why Toby was considered unwanted, leading his previous owners to abandon him. It surely wasn’t due to aggression, as he’s the sweetest dog imaginable with absolutely no mean streak. Hostility also isn’t in his nature. So, what could it possibly be? The discovery of the truth utterly broke my heart.
Every time his family turned their backs on him, it was not Toby’s fault, and it certainly wasn’t his wrongdoing that led him to spend an additional two years in a shelter.
Thankfully, Maddison Egan from Florida recognized this and decided to grant Toby one last chance.
Toby Was Rehomed Three Times

Toby’s life has been far from simple. This six-year-old furball has been rehomed three times in just four years, which undoubtedly took a toll on him. Initially, he lost his home because he was treated solely as a breeding dog, with his owner discarding him once he was deemed unnecessary. After that, he changed homes twice more, once due to a landlord issue and another time under unclear circumstances.
Then came Maddison.

After his troubled family experiences, Toby was taken in by a Humane Society, where he quickly became a beloved member of the shelter. Maddison met Toby several times and fell in love with him, learning about his heartbreaking journey.
“He lived in the shelter for two years, and I found out that he was rehomed three times,” said Maddison, in an interview with GeoBeats Animals. Tragically, Toby was completely shut down.
“He was very quiet. It just almost looked like he’d just given up after being there for so long. I could just see it in his eyes that he was just attention-deprived, deprived of love, just needing affection,” Maddison observed.

Then it happened. Maddison was even more compelled to adopt Toby after hearing his tragic backstory, and within days, he was welcomed home. Initially taken in as a foster, it soon became clear that Maddison wanted Toby to be a permanent member of her family.
Now, It’s Forever

It took just five hours for Maddison to realize Toby was her forever dog. They spent that time adjusting to each other, and Toby immediately showed his sweet and affectionate nature, making the transition seamless.
It felt as if Toby had always been meant for Maddison. A week later, he began playing with toys and revealing his vibrant personality, and you could see his happiness each time he woke up, realizing he was still in his new home.
His appearance alone is enough to melt hearts; Toby has the gentlest, loving look that captures Maddison’s heart every time.

“Dogs don’t lock eyes that much with humans unless they feel secure. And sometimes that’s all he does, just looks at me right in my soul,” reflects Maddison.
Toby is finally where he belongs, far removed from rehoming and heartbreak, and is truly discovering what it feels like to be loved.
Wishing Toby and Maddison a joyful life filled with exciting adventures for years to come!
