Every time I gaze at Sid’s photo, my heart breaks into countless pieces as I see his desperate, hopeful eyes pleading for a chance.
This German Shepherd mix has spent the last seven years in a shelter in New York, clinging to his tiny kennel. After two unsuccessful adoption attempts and countless nights hoping for a new opportunity, Sid has grown into quite the big boy.
Now an adult dog, Sid has been at the shelter for a total of 1,244 days. Despite this, he maintains the playful spirit of a puppy, eagerly awaiting a human to shower with love and cuddles!
Seeking A Forever Home Since 2017
Sid made his way to the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter in New York back in 2017 when he was just ten months old. Within a few months, this cheerful little pup found what he thought was his forever home, but sadly, it didn’t last long.
“Sid initially arrived as a stray in 2017 at just 10 months old; he was quickly adopted but then returned due to behavioral problems,” the rescue shared on Facebook.
Sid’s boundless enthusiasm and energy turned out to be too much for his first adopter. When given a second chance, his next adoptive family also returned him for the same reason!
What was meant to be a beautiful new beginning ended up being countless days spent in emotional turmoil as he remained confined in the shelter.
In July 2024, an Instagram user, @adopt_ky_and_friends, shared a heartbreaking video of Sid imploring for adoption from his kennel. His story quickly went viral online, garnering the attention of thousands.
Fortunately, Sid has made significant progress since his last surrender. With the support of devoted volunteers and an outstanding team at the shelter, he has diligently worked on enhancing his behavioral skills and has become quite the good boy!
“He is well-loved by many volunteers at the shelter who have wonderful things to say about him. Sid is an active pup who enjoys long walks, yet he also makes for a fantastic companion for cozy TV time,” mentioned THAS.
Sid’s Preference for a Tranquil Home
Sid continues to dream of finding his forever family. He waits in the shelter but also has a full schedule of activities!
The staff ensures he enjoys plenty of outdoor time. He is truly a nature enthusiast, spending much of his time by the lake appreciating the landscape. Furthermore, Sid relishes being a wonderful walking companion and earns a tasty puppuccino as a treat each time!
Yet, his greatest delight is snuggling up with his favorite humans on the couch. He cherishes quiet moments and loves to lounge beside you for hours while watching TV.
In search of a suitable home, Sid would thrive in an environment with ample space and plenty of personal time. He prefers to be the sole dog in the household, but he can coexist peacefully with cats.
“Sid is seeking a calm home with adults only, ideally those experienced with guarding breeds. He has never lived with another dog and prefers to keep it that way, though he has previously cohabited with a cat,” remarked the rescue.
His caregivers would be immensely grateful if he could find the perfect home before he reaches the 2,000-day mark at the shelter. Sid is an undeniably good boy who deserves a chance at happiness; all he needs is someone who understands him.
