When Brisby’s owner surrendered him to a shelter in Texas, it was due to her pregnancy and inability to care for him.

Brisby’s New Hope
After spending a period in a Texas shelter, he was fostered in Florida by a volunteer for about a month.
Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, he was later moved to a different foster home in Seattle.
This is where Brisby began to face some challenges regarding adoption. His psychological struggles became more evident during this time.
Lauren shared with GeoBeats Animals: “He had some behavioral challenges. There was an incident where they tried to take something from him, and he reacted defensively.”
This posed a significant challenge, as Brisby’s aggressive moments may have deterred potential adopters.
This led to his transfer to a California training facility where a dedicated trainer named Diana worked diligently to address his behavioral concerns.
His story began circulating in hopes of finding a potential adopter, which is when a compassionate woman named Lauren took notice.
Brisby Is In His New Home
She filled out an adoption application and was quickly accepted. Since she resided in Northern Virginia, she traveled to California to bring him home.
Upon finalizing everything, Brisby’s life transformed drastically. Lauren reflected, “Initially, my husband and I approached him gently.”
During their first attempt at playing fetch, Brisby’s joy was evident, showcasing his endearing personality.
A unique observation made by Brisby’s new mom was his peculiar paw structure, leading to rapid nail growth. He typically resists anyone handling his paws.
Lauren mentioned, “During vet visits for nail trimming, they have to sedate him as the procedure is too stressful otherwise, requiring sedation about once a month.”
She also picked up on Brisby’s tendency to flinch when objects are thrown in his direction, even if they’re toys, leaving them puzzled about the root cause.
Brisby Is Making A Huge Change
Children typically adore Brisby, but Lauren must monitor interactions due to his behavioral challenges.
While he may appear to have certain issues, Brisby is genuinely friendly and gets along well with everyone, including other dogs.
His new family is committed to providing him with what he needs. Struggling with severe separation anxiety and occasional misbehavior, he is currently on medication.
They are gradually helping him become accustomed to being alone so that he can conquer his fears.
Despite the challenges, Brisby’s mom feels incredibly lucky to have him and cannot picture her life without him. She is thrilled to have found someone so devoted to him.
Ultimately, Lauren stated: “He is a genuinely good dog. He wants to be a good dog; we just need to accommodate his unique traits.”
